The opening match of the season was fished on an ebb tide with a light inshore swell.Fifteen anglers weighed in fish of various types Codling ,Billet,Whiting,Eels and Rockling.
W.Atkinson and D.Thompson shared the glory both with ten pound bags, Atkinson with one fish of 7LB-3oz.

Sundays match was fished on a high tide, with the sea state calm and strong southerly winds and rain which made for poor conditions.

The match was fished on a small tide flooding to high water with a growing northley swell.
These were more favouable conditions and most anglers who fished came back to the scales with fish of various types Codling,Billet,Whiting and Rockling.

Sundays match saw anglers fishing a low water match with a light easterly movement.
Good bags of fish were found including some better size fish.
Neil Ingles had the heaviest bag with six fish for 17LB-7oz the heaviest bag of the season so far,while Glen Kilpatrick claimed the heaviest fish of the season so far a good fish of 9LB-2oz.

Wednesdays match was fished with an inshore swell on a flooding to high water tide.
Anglers came back to the scales with mixed bags of fish.The match was also the first round of the singles knockout.
Dennis Thompson was the winner however with four fish for 9LB-1oz.

Codlings proved scarce again with more of the club anglers targeting Whitings which seem to be most prolific at the moment.

Sunday saw Whitby Sea Anglers host their annual open match.This year saw a good turn out of one hundred anglers to fish a low water-flood tide with a heavy Northly sea swell running.Forty-five anglers returned to the scales eleven of these with double figured bags of fish.
This years winner was Martin Wilding with a good bag of fish for 24LB-1oz taking first prize of four hundred pounds.
The heaviest fish of the match was taken by Roy Camish a fine fish of 10LB-8oz and the junior winner was Jamie Gilbank with a codling for 2LB-1oz.

WEDNESDAY 12TH JANUARY

Anglers fished an ebb tide with relatively calm conditions this reflected in the results as mainly Whiting came back to the scales.

SUNDAY 6TH FEB 2005

Anglers fished this low tide match with a light to moderate northerly long distance swell in the water. Catches again were very good for the time of year with several good bags of codling being brought back to the scales.

Results : 1st Paul Kilpatrick 15Lb 12Oz (4), 2nd Neil Ingliss 13 Lb (6), 3rd Brian Harland 10 Lb 11Oz (5). Phil Mead 8 – 15 (2), D Perret 5 – 11 (3), C Stainthorpe 2-6 (2), B Vasey 2-0 (1), G K ilpatrick 0 – 12 (1 pouting), W Atkinson 0-8 (1 Rockling).

WED 9TH FEB 2005.

Anglers fished a large ebbing tide with a very slight long distance swell in the water. Catches again were reasonable for the time of year and conditions. Club angler Paul Dryden caught his best fish this season weighing in a codling of 5 pound 5 ounces.

SUN 13TH FEB 2005.

Sunday saw the annual Bell Trophy match, an interclub match fished between clubs from across the Yorkshire coast. The majority of  Whitby club members fished but found the going difficult with strong gale force northerly winds blowing on the day. Only 2 members of the Whitby club returned to the scales with fish.

Whitby Club Members results : 1st Dennis Thompson 10Lb 9 Oz (3), 2nd Neil Ingliss 8Lb 3Oz (2)

WED 16TH FEB 2005.

Anglers fished a small flooding tide with only a slight swell left in the water from the weekends gales. Dennis Thompson Continued his recent return to form with his second win in 3 days and also a nice fish of 9Lb 1Oz which takes the lead in the clubs monthly heaviest fish competition.

Results : 1st D Thompson 11-1 (2), 2nd C Stainthorpe 5-8(1), 3rd P short 3-12(6), R Allison 2-9(1), M Pitman 1-10(2), D Perret 1-0(1), W Atkinson 10 oz, N Ingliss 10oz, B Harland 9 Oz, M Vasey 7oz.

This match also included the first leg of the annual singles Knockout Final Between M Vasey and B Harland. Brian Takes a narrow lead of 2oz into the second leg to be fished in next Wednesdays match.

SUN 20TH FEB 2005

Whitby fishing club members braved the artic like weather to fish this low tide match with a heavy north-north westerly swell in the water. It was a night for big fish with Dennis Thompson catching a fine specimen cod of 9Lb 12Oz and Bernard Vasey going 1 better with a fish of 11Lb-0oz to take the lead from Phil Mead in this years heaviest fish competition.

Results :1st D Thompson 13Lb 14oz (3), 2nd B Vasey 11-0 (1), 3rd A Kelly 7 – 6 (3), C Stainthorpe 6-8 (3), J Ebbison 4-12 (1), P Kilpatrick 4-10 (2), D Perret 2-3 (1), G Kilpatrick 2-1 (2), W Atkinson 1-8 (1).

WED 23RD FEB 2005

Blizzards and gale force northeasterly winds met club members as they turned out to fish this ebb to low tide match. Conditions were again difficult with a big noreast swell in the water. Dennis Thompson made it 4 wins in 4 matches and reduced Neil Ingliss once 70 pound lead at the top of the table to just over 20 pound. With just 10 matches left this could be one of the most thrilling ends to a season for many years.

This match also saw the conclusion of the singles knockout competition with B Harland Just managing to defeat M Vasey over the two leg final.

SUN 27TH FEB 2005

A dieing north easterly swell made for good conditions in this high to ebb tide match. The Bigger fish still seem to be around with Junior member G shepherd catching a fine fish of  6Lb 4 oz and senior member Dennis Thompson returning to the scales with 2 fish for 16 pound the biggest of which weighed in at 10Lb 3oz.

SUN 6th March 2005

The fish proved difficult to find in this low water match. A Kelly returned to the scales at The Ship Inn with 2 fish for 3lb 7oz which gave him his first win of the current season.

WED 9TH MARCH 2005

Fishing the biggest low tide of the year so far with a north westerly swell and coloured water produced some good results for members of the Whitby sea angling club. William Atkinson won the nights match with 3 fine codling for a total weight of 12lb 11oz.

SUN 13TH MARCH 2005

A Big long distance swell made for less than perfect conditions in this high tide to ebb match. William Atkinson made it two wins in 2 matches, this time  with 2 fish for 15Lb the biggest of which weighed in at 12Lb 12 oz and takes the lead in the clubs heaviest fish competition.

WED 16TH MARCH 2005

After over a month of rough seas Wednesday’s match was fished in relatively calm conditions. This reflected in the results with only 2 rockling being weighed in.

Results 1st B Harland 0lb 8oz, 2nd D Perret 0lb 6oz.

SUN 20TH MARCH 2005

A slight south easterly swell had stirred the sea for Sunday evenings 4 hour match which was fished over low water. George Middlemass took first place with 2 fish for 9Lb 14 oz the biggest of which was 7Lb 2oz.

Results 1st G Middlemass  9Lb 14 oz (2), 2nd G Kilpatrick 7 – 0 (3), 3rd D Thompson 3 – 4 (2), B Harland 1-12(3), D Perett 1-5 (2), C Stainthorpe 1-2 (1),  P Mead 0-8 (1).

WED 23RD MARCH 2005

The going was tough in this last low tide match of the season. Flat calm seas and clearing water colour made the fish difficult to locate. Only this seasons top 2 anglers returned to the scales with fish.

Results 1st D Thompson 2 lb 2 oz (1 codling), 2nd N Ingliss 0lb 8oz (1 rockling)

SUN 27TH MARCH 2005

Sundays match saw anglers fishing a high to ebb tide match with a growing easterly swell, the fish were again thin on the ground with only 2 anglers returning to the scales with fish. Glenn Kilpatrick won the match with 2 codling for  4lb.

Results 1st G Kilpatrick 4lb 0oz (2), 2nd W Atkinson 2lb 5oz.

Neither of this seasons top 2 anglers caught fish in sundays match. The position at the top of the table with 1 match to go is 1st N Ingliss 196 Lb 04oz and second D Thompson 192lb 02 oz.

WED 30TH MARCH 2005

The final match of the season was fished over highwater with a good south easterly sea swell and coloured water. William Atkinson continued his late season run winning the match with four fish for  12Lb 4oz. Glenn Kilpatrick also returned to the scales with a good catch of 1 fish for 8lb 10 oz.

Neither of the top 2 placed anglers caught fish in this match leaving the position at the top of the table unchanged. This years Champion Is Neil Ingliss who over the past 6 month’s matches caught 148 fish giving him the best aggregate weight of 196LB 04oz. Congratulations Neil from all the lads at the club.
