Whitby Angling Festival – Sea Otters Day
Uncategorized Tuesday, April 14th, 2009Day 2 of the Whitby Angling Festival again saw a poor turn out of anglers with only 3 boats leaving the port at 7am this morning (Sea Otter 2, Lone Shark and Shytorque). Discussion amongst the skippers seems to indicate that the current credit crunch is hitting hard with fewer anglers turning out at the moment.
Despite the poor turn out fishing was again excellent with cod making up the mainstay of the catches. Day 2 belonged entirely to anglers on Paul Kilpatrick’s Sea Otter 2 with anglers from the boat taking 1st, 2nd and 3rd places all with nice sized cod.
Paul Barret from Ripon was the days overall winner and his cod of 15 pounds 15 ounces also goes into the lead in the festival as a whole.

Whitby angler Ben Laws, himself a past winner of the Summer Festival took second place with a nice cod of 10 pounds 5 ounces. Speaking to Ben at the weigh in he said he had enjoyed one of his best days fishing in a long time. Ben said he was amazed at both the quantity and quality of fish coming out so early in the season. Apparently there was so many fish caught that many of the anglers were practising catch and return by the afternoons fishing.
Third Place on the day went to A Sadik from Harrogate whose cod of 9 pounds 10.5 ounces earned him £25 for his efforts.
1st P Barret – Ripon – Cod 15lb 15oz – Sea Otter 2
2nd Ben Laws – Whitby – Cod 10 05 – Sea Otter 2
3rd A Sadik – Harrogate – Cod 9-10.5 – Sea Otter 2
