Ocean Kayak Frenzy
From Ocean Kayak and Johnson Outdoors here’s a kayak which is fantastic value and exceptional quality, They are so popular because they offer the affordable way to get afloat and have some fun.
The self-draining, open cockpit design of sit-on-tops also makes them very safe for beginners and experienced paddlers alike. The Frenzy, priced at £299, is 9’ (2.7m), has a beam of 31” (78.7cm), weighs just 43lbs (19.5kg) but has a carrying capacity of 275-325lbs (124.7-147.7kg.)
It has a large roomy seat well, plenty of storage space in the tank well which includes a bungee to keep things
secure. For watertight storage there’s the option of a 6” hatch.
It also has a moulded-in cup holder and moulded in foot wells. The Frenzy is a sit-on-top which is incredibly versatile, very manoeuvrable and offers great stability whether you are paddling at sea, riding the surf of exploring calm waters.

An entry level kayak that can be adapted to offer good fishing fun. Not as quick as the longer fishing kayaks and care should be taken on areas of fast tidal flow (i.e. Flamborough). Stability is good and is very easy to transport on top of a car. Perfect for those who live a long way from the coast or have limited sace to store the kayak. Good fun but at half the price of some fishing kayaks you get what you pay for.
New to this, but my 10 year old son and I have launched and had great fun along the south coast of England. Ok for fishing and fun. Easy to launch and very stable. A lot of fun for the money. Not tried to transport two boats on the roof of the car yet, which is my only worry as they are quite wide and not shaped for easy tie down.
First of all, just let me say that I love my Frenzy. I how own three Ocean Kayaks, and although the Frenzy is not what I would categorize as a fishing kayak, it’s compact size and light weight make it a great kayak for quick and easy short fishing. I keep the Frenzy simple, and doesn’t take near as much effort to use as my fully-rigged fishing kayaks. I can handle it by myself with no problems, I even built a PVC cart that enables me to pull my frenzy to the beach behind my bicycle! The Frenzy is perfect for when I just want to paddle along shore and do some light fishing for whiting or redfish. If I’m planning on a full-fledged fishing trip where I’m going to be covering any distance or need significant gear, I definitely use one of my other fishing kayaks and not the Frenzy. For my needs and for how I use it, the Frenzy is great! Wish there was a flat spot big enough for installing an in-hull rod holder, but the rod holders on my deluxe seat do the trick. Oh, and I can’t go without mentioning that the Frenzy is so much fun in the surf too!
