North East Sea Fishing Report – Sunday Sun Alan Charlton
News Wednesday, April 29th, 2009SUNDAY SUN SEA ANGLING APRIL 26th TH
Boat angling is still on the up with small boats fishing around Longscar Rocks taking small codling with the odd better one going to double figures. Hartlepool boats Victoria Lee, Flamer 2, Gannet and private boat Father Ted taking reasonable numbers of codling with a few reaching double figures, with most fish coming from rough ground marks. Whitby boat sea Otter was up around Hartlepool as well taking cod to 10lb. We could also be in for a very early start to the mackerel season, fingers crossed, a commercial boat fishing out of Blyth landed a full box of the little tasty darlings, along with a few hake, herring, some decent plaice, and some good sized cod. For the shore angler just now it is very, very hard, with only anglers travelling up to the deep water marks around Eyemouth and St Abbs, who are taking a few hard fighting Pollock to 5lb, are having any success. Most pleasure anglers I am afraid have put their gear away and have got the fly fishing gear out. Thankfully or the hardened match anglers, there is always the measure and release matches, however matches fishing to size limits have been hard pressed to land a single fish.
Hopefully next wee, after two members of the Angling Trust have spoken to Joe Borg in Brussels about article 47, we will have some good clear answers to problems caused by misinterpretation of what exactly are a recreational sea angler and a hobby angler.
