North East Sea Angling Match Results – Alan Charlton
News Sunday, March 22nd, 2009SUNDAY SUN SEA ANGLING MARCH 22nd
I very rarely agree with the NFSA now the Anglers Trust, but on this occasion I share their fears. The new chairman Stuart McPherson like myself an outspoken person about the bias against anglers, fear that under this new Marine Bill, recreational anglers could be used as a sacrificial lamb. The new regulatory inshore fisheries and conservation body (IFCA’S) yet another government Quango, have to prove they are efficient and they will have inspection targets to reach. And where does any Quango go to? The easiest targets, so instead of flying off to sea to catch a single trawler fishing in prohibited waters and scooping up toins of fish illegally, their targets could be easier reached by checking anglers on boats and or on the beaches. You can just see the inspectors sitting in deck chairs with their clip boards at the ready as recreational sea anglers return to shore from their summer jaunt for a few fish, a few ticks and Bobs your uncle targets reached.
This has to be the oddest start to what could be a cracking summer seasons fishing, here we are only in March and a mackerel has been caught in a net off Hartlepool, along with cod of 50lb, yes 50lb, one of 35lb and a ling of 35lb, plus some decent thornback rays. Off the Tyne already ling to just over 14lb have been landed aboard Sarah JFK. Shore angling along the Cumbria Coast has taken a turn for the better, all the dabs that where being taken through the winter, have now gone and been replaced by good sized flounders, some good plaice mainly around 1-8-0, with a monster of 4lb coming from Whitehaven pier.
A meeting regarding the “possible” implications of Marine Conservation Zones to recreational sea anglers could be taking place in the next month or two. If you belong to an organisation or club along the NE coast, The Northern Federation of Sea Angling Societies would like to know if you would like to be represented. If you do you can contact me via, e-mail alancharltonsea@blueyonder.co.uk
