Loe Beach, Feock, nr Truro (not to be confused with Loe Bar - NOT SUITABLE). Costs about £2 to park and another £1 to launch, but right out into Carrick Roads with a 20 m carry. Gets very busy in summer, but a great option for evening fishing (and normally free at this time).

Filey (Yorkshire)

Launching A Kayak At Filey - Country Park, Filey Dingy Club

Great parking (a couple of quid for all day), toilets, cafe, shop and camping/caravan site close at hand. Easy launch down steep boat ramp of about 100 metres (take a yak trolley) onto the sands of Filey bay. This is an easy and sheltered launch site. At present there is no charge for launching a kayak here. On the fishing front there are Bass and flatties in Filey bay making nice safe paddling/fishing. To the north its a two mile paddle to the end of Filey Brigg where the fishing can be much better with cod, pollock, bass, coalfish and wrasse all possible, but pick your tides/ weather VERY carefully, don’t paddle to the Brigg alone. Kayak fishing at Filey Brigg is not a place for novices or without a guide. Paddling towards the south past the town centre there is good fishing around Hunmanby Gap but you do get more swell here so again be careful. Coastguards are on hand surveying the bay during seasonal times. Follow signs for Filey Country Park, parking next to the kids play area opposite the shop, The ramp is directly opposite.

Marine Drive (Scarborough Yorkshire)

Posted under North East

Marine Drive, Scarborough

To get to Marine Drive park in the North Bay on Royal Albert Drive. There is a slipway in the middle of the bay and one at the end near the Sands development, therefore launching a kayak here is very easy. During the summer months there is an hourly parking charge all along the drive. From these two slipways you can head towards the Marine Drive proper around the Scarborough castle area. There is good cod fishing here in winter and summer and because the launch is easy it is ideal for a short morning or evening session. This also helps keep you out of the summer crowds. The cod can be taken with standard lures such as hokias in the summer when the water is clear, and mussel bait in the winter months. On a high tide try spinning or plugging for pollock very close in around the rock armour when the water is calm and clear. Bass could also show where the sand meets the rock in the corner of the north bay.

Upgang Slipway (Whitby - Yorkshire)

Posted under North East

Upgang Ravine Whitby

Access to the Ravine Slipway at Upgang Beach can be made via a track from the main Whitby to Sandsend road. A key is needed to access the track and this can be obtained by leaving a deposit of 10 pounds at the Golf course on Sandsend road. Once down the track parking is free and the slipway gives easy access to the water. Fishing in this area is mainly over sand and Bass are a potential target at this relatively under exploited area of the coast. Roughly 1000 yards from the shore is a large Kelp bed where cod can easily be targeted in both summer and winter, also there is a possibility of other species here including Pollock and Bass.

Runswick Bay Slipway

kayak fishing from runswick bay slipway Again currently unchartered water, Runswick Bay is sure to hold an abundance of kayak fishing opportunities for anyone willing to put in the time to learn the area. A good mixture of kelp and sand is to be found close at hand. The areas to the South of the village over towards Kettleness and to the north up towards Port Mulgrave should be within paddling distance and the inshore fishing here should be exceptional. Parking is chargeable by the hour in the villages car parks which are roughly 100 yards from the slipway. You should expect this scenic village to be busy during the summer months but once out on the sea you will be on your own viewing one of the most scenic parts of the Yorkshire coastline. Sandsend Car Park (Yorkshire)

Sandsend Car Park

sandsend slipway - an ideal place to launch a kayak

This large slipway can be found at the north end of the village at the bottom of Lythe Bank. There is an hourly parking charge through summer, there are also council toilets, and a very nice local cafe for anyone wanting refreshments. Again this area is under exploited by kayak anglers. Fishing near the cliffs will give many species with cod almost a certainty and the likelihood of catching a Bass being high. A longer Paddle around Sandsend Ness end will give access to some tremendous kelp beds close to shore in the areas between the Ness end and Goldsborough. Again this is fairly unchartered water for kayak fishing. My personal feeling is this could be one of the coasts best areas for kayak angling.

Robin Hoods Bay

kayak fishing at robin hoods bay slipway

This one could be a rather difficult launch but also should be well worth the effort for anyone fit enough to deal with the 400 yard decent down a track to the new slipway. Parking will be at the top of the village bank in a council car park chargeable by the hour. Once you have launched there will be fishing opportunities all over the bay. Heading North Towards the Ness End could give good cod fishing with the chance of Bass close in.

Boggle Hole

fishing at boggle hole - kayak launch sites

Access to the beach at boggle hole should be fairly easy via the track near the Youth Hostel. However you should not take your car any further than the car park roughly half to 3/4 of a mile from the beach as it is all but impossible to turn around on the track and with parking being non existent on the very narrow track, this area is really only for those prepared to walk down to the beach with all their tackle and Kayak.

Cornelian Bay Yorkshire

Cornelian Bay - A difficult launch but well worth the effort.

cornelain bay kayak fishing Park at the water treatment plant which is free. You really need a trolley to get down to the cliff base - the path is loose stone with rough tarmac towards the bottom - once at the bottom you need to remove the trolley and do two trips down the cliff path with your kayak and then your tackle - if the tide is a big spring low then it’s slightly further to walk but not too bad as there is an inner lake that is quite close - if the path is dry the descent and accent is not too bad, care must be taken if the path is wet though - on a scale of 1 to 10 I would say the level of difficulty is 7 - for this reason travel light and sensible - the bay offers excellent summer and winter cod fishing along the full length of the bay on the land rock, also there is some sport to be had with plugs for bass and pollock along the rock edges - it is also not too far to get to Gristhorpe from here which is about a mile to the south - the best option if you want to get here is to go down on the flood and return on the ebb tide.

North Landing Flamborough

flamborough north bay slipway

When you get to the village of Flamborough follow the signs to North Landing and proceed to the car park at the end of the road. The charge here is £1.50 all day during the summer months but free in the winter. It is quite a steep track down to the beach, especially at the base, but it is hard standing so you will really need a trolley. Take care in the summer when moving your kayak as the beach gets very busy with lots of small children enjoying the bay. From here you can head either south to the lighthouse or north to the tall cliffs of Bempton. Fish can be caught all along these areas. Again the main target species is cod, using lures in the clear summer waters and bait in cloudy water. There is good sport to be had with pollock, mackerel, wrasse and coalfish also. The tidal currents here are very strong because of the nature of the headland, it is therefore advisable to only go on neap tides, and also be aware of the tidal streams, left to right flood, right to left ebb, as the wind can make paddling difficult when these combine. There are plenty of small craft around Flamborough in the summer so it is rare that you will be on your own. It is also worth mentioning that consideration should be observed towards cliff top anglers, please keep a look out and give there lines a wide birth.
