The Old Town canoes the Discovery 119 and the Discovery Sport 15 are back

Johnson Outdoors UK is pleased to announce the return of two old favourites. , and will be on display at this year’s Southampton Boat Show. They have been reintroduced to celebrate 25 years of the Discovery Series. This is a range of great value recreational canoes which excel when it comes to versatility and durability. Being very tough and unsinkable they are perfect for general and family use.

DISCOVERY 119

The Discovery 119 is a solo canoe which is agile and easy to handle. The contoured seat and adjustable backrest ensure a very comfortable paddling position and it is even well-suited to using a double bladed paddle. At 11’9” (3.6m) long and with a beam of 32½” (82.6cm) it has a stable but responsive hull incorporating a flat bottom with a keel, straight sides and moderate rocker. Like all Discovery canoes the 119 is made of Super Linear Polyethylene so it’s very strong. The weight is 43lbs (19.5kg), the carrying capacity is 450-500lbs (204.1 -226.8kg) and the price is £549.

The Discovery Sport 15

The Discovery Sport 15 (above right) is a canoe which is highly adaptable because it can be paddled, rowed or even motored. The small square transom will take an outboard motor up to 5hp, and with a Minn Kota electric model you can glide silently on the water without disturbing wildlife. The spacious interior makes it ideal for family recreational use or activities such as fishing. It is 15’3” (4.7m) long with full length stabilizing chines to give a very comfortable, dry ride. The flared sides and generous beam of 40” (102cm) give it that extra bit of space and it has a roomy seat layout with three nylon web seats.
With three sturdy grab handles it is also easy to handle out of the water. Maintenance free, it has Vinyl gunwhales with a Super Linear Polyethylene hull. It weighs 113lb (51.2kg), has a carrying of 1650-1700lbs (748 -771kg) and is priced at £899. In addition to the traditional colours of green or red all Discovery canoes are now also available in sunrise.

Kaskazi Marlin Fishing Kayak Review

The Kaskazi Marlin is a fishing version of the Kaskazi Pelican. It has all the features and user friendly characteristics of the Pelican and is equipped with fishing accessories: Two rod holders and saddles for attaching tethers are fitted aft of the seat, a small hatch or bait box is fitted to the centre console, a plastic crate is accommodated in the recessed rear hatch and anchor trolley lines are fitted to both gunwales on the bow and the port gunwale on the stern. Carry handles are fitted on either side at the point of balance.

The Marlin is ideal for the catch-and-release angler who does not need the large fish box offered by the Dorado. It provides a light and manageable platform for angling, snorkelling and spear-fishing.

The Marlin is based on the Pelican sit on top expedition kayak which is fitted with accessories for angling. Its volume ensures excellent stability and load carrying capacity. The reliability and user-friendliness of the Marlin makes it very appealing as a day tripper and for recreational paddling. The angling accessories make it a very versatile recreational kayak.
