The new Mysto from Ocean Kayak is a brand new boat with a brand new look. different from Ocean Kayak.” The new Mysto has a sleek new hull shape but the craft remains very stable and efficient to paddle whatever your size or weight. Both adults and children can enjoy the Mysto. “Dads can use it, and even one of the kids can jump on with him,” commented Spike. Of course being built by Ocean Kayak, the world’s number one when it comes to sit-on-tops, the Mysto is lightweight and strong. The projected specifications are: length 9’9” (3m), beam 31” (0.79m), weight 43 pounds (19.5kg) with a maximum capacity of between 19 to 23 stone (125-147kg) depending on the conditions. Included in the design are some clever new features and in addition to the skeg, there are two small fins at the back of the boat to give additional tracking. “The bottom of the hull is shaped partly like a surf board, so at the beach even beginners will be able to surf waves,” said Spike. The main skeg also has a sacrificial plastic pad to protect the hull if the boat is dragged. When the pad is worn it can simply be replaced. Other features include self draining scuppers, moulded-in foot wells and moulded-in handles at the front and the sides. The Mysto is easy to carry and easy to climb back on board if you’ve been for a swim. There are also moulded-in tank wells at the front and back of the boat for storage and a moulded-in backrest, or you can use the integral anchor points to fit the backrest of your choice. Paddles can also be stowed in the length of the
boat when not in use. The Mysto is maintenance free, easily car toppable and very compact to store. Materials used by Ocean Kayak are repairable and recyclable. The Mysto is offered in a variety of vibrant colours and will be available in shops in the UK around Easter. NECKY ELIZA SEA KAYAK - NEW KAYAK FOR WOMEN

The new Necky Eliza sea kayak from Johnson Outdoors Watercraft has been designed specifically for women. In the past women have had to compromise with some kayak models which did not ideally suit their weight or body shape. However, Necky designers have worked hard to come up with an innovative new design which fits the shape of women’s bodies better and gives greater comfort, manoeuvrability and speed.
“Often the average female paddler is put in to a boat which is just too big for her,” commented Necky designer Spike Gladwin. “People think they will go faster in a longer boat but that’s only true if you’ve got the power and fitness to push it or are a trained Olympic athlete. We’ve designed this hull to offer maximum efficiency for the size of the person in the boat.” The Eliza is perfect for female paddlers of all abilities and a cross-section of women from complete novices to experienced paddlers were consulted on different prototypes until the Eliza design was just right.
Measuring 15ft 3 ½” (4.6m) long and weighing just 49 pounds (22.2kg), it is one of the lightest day-touring kayaks on the market. Although a priority has been to keep the weight down, the standard kayak is manufactured in polyethylene so it’s extremely tough. It can easily be loaded solo on to a car. Features include a lower deck height to give better stroke clearances for women with narrow shoulders. The deck profile minimises windage and quickly sheds water.
The cockpit is an ergonomic fit for a woman’s shape allowing better control. “We found that women felt the cockpit on most boats was way too long,” added Spike. “We’ve made it shorter so they can get a good grip and get hold of the boat much better.” A touring seat has a back band to offer greater support and foam thigh braces provide control without adding weight. The Eliza hull shape is stable and glides through the water offering little drag. It is exceptionally easy to paddle and very efficient at touring speeds which are typically about 4 knots. Bow and stern hatches are included for storage, and a retractable rudder system makes the Eliza simple to steer.

THE OCEAN PROWLER 13

A great fishing kayak with even more features Ocean Kayak is the World’s Number 1 for Sit-On-Tops and the Prowler 13 is one of the most popular angling kayaks in the UK. It now incorporates extra features to make it even simpler to fit a fishfinder. Fishfinders have revolutionised kayak fishing and the Prowler 13 has been tailor made to make installation of a Humminbird fishfinder kit quick and easy.

A scupper hole inside a cup holder and a special recess in the hull are used for fitting the transducer. The fishfinder kit comes with a specially designed transducer boot for installing the transducer into the hull. It also includes a mounting plate for the display and a cable gland for the power cable. All Humminbird fishfinders are waterproof and are available with a quick disconnect system.
As well as being fishfinder ready, every aspect of the design of the Prowler 13 is considered down to the last detail. This is a stable, tough fishing kayak which is light to transport off the water and highly manoeuvrable when you’re on it. It feels safe to paddle in all conditions, is fast and has exceptional tracking and performance with almost no water slap. This is a great all round kayak, equally at home paddling through surf or nimbly picking your way amongst the rocks. Being manufactured from rotomoulded monolink polyethylene it is also incredibly durable.
The Prowler 13 is 13’4” (4.1m) long, weighs 54lbs (24.5kg.) with a carrying capacity of between 400-450lbs ((181 -204kg). It comes with a comfortable seat back as standard and a highly practical deck layout which keeps everything easy to manage. Features include a large moulded in tank well capable of taking a large fishing crate; a bungee is included to keep equipment well secured. For dry stowage there’s a large bow hatch and a 6” center hatch with a storage bucket.
Other features include two flush mounted rod holders, a Plano bait box, moulded in footwells and paddle keepers. The deck layout is also ideal for adding any extras. There are moulded inserts for anchor trolley fittings; this allows you to rig a simple traveller to set the anchor at either end of the boat. An optional rudder can also be fitted. Even with the extra features the price remains the same for the Prowler 13 at £559 or £529 for a non-angling version. Materials used by Ocean Kayak are repairable and recyclable.
