MORE GREAT NEW PRODUCTS THIS YEAR

Whether you are looking for some affordable family fun on the water or an advanced expedition kayak there are some fantastic new products on show from Johnson Outdoors UK this year. (See below for prices) From Ocean Kayak, the world’s number 1 for sit-on-tops, there is the versatile Mysto (right) which is 9’9” and a great all-rounder whatever your size and weight. It’s ideal whether you want to surf the waves or paddle inland waters and like all sit-on-tops it is car toppable and easy to launch, retrieve and store. Old Town launches the Vapor 10 and Vapor 10XT (right) kayaks which have a spacious comfortable cockpit which will take an adult and child. Fans of Ray Mears will certainly be impressed by the Old Town Canadian style canoes which are perfect for families and ideal for a day out on the water or camping trip. These craft bring tradition and technology together in their construction and design. To celebrate 25 years of the Discovery Series the Discovery 119 has been reintroduced (left). It is joined by the new Discovery Sport 15. (right) which has a transom so it can be rowed, paddled or motored. There are also bright new colours available in the Discovery and Guide series of canoes. Necky, a name renowned among kayaking enthusiasts, presents the striking Chatham 16 Carbon (below). This sleek, lightweight kayak is built of advanced composites which make it incredibly light, stiff and tough. This is a pure paddling machine and its sleek lines and graphite grey carbon fibre hull are sure to attract attention.

As well as all the exciting new boats on the stand, Johnson Outdoors UK staff will be on hand to offer expert advice on everything from picking the right craft to fitting out. For those who like their craft compact they don’t come much easier to transport than the new Tomcat Inflatable Kayaks (below) built by whitewater rafting specialists AIRE. These versatile boats were recently featured in The Sunday Times. The ever popular kayak fishing section has even more choice with new models (below) of the Prowler Trident 11 and 13 which are packed with features. The sport of kayak fishing is a massive growth area and Johnson Outdoors UK lead the way with their latest innovative designs. Visitors to the stand can see the Angler Packages which have everything the fisherman needs to get afloat in a fully equipped boat. Basic models are also available and there’s plenty of advice on how craft can be customized with accessories to spread the cost of a purchase.

MARINE ELECTRONICS

The Marine Electronics Trailer will have more innovative electronics on display including the award winning Side Imaging Sonar from Humminbird. Demonstrations of the big screen 1197 side imaging unit will be relayed to a flat screen television. This Side Imaging Sonar was initially developed for recreational use and it has proved popular with mariners, divers and leisure and commercial fishermen. However it is so sophisticated that it is also now being increasingly used by Search and Rescue professionals and the Emergency Services. In addition to viewing beneath the boat, this sonar can scan and survey up to 240 feet either side of it producing high definition, picture like images of the underwater topography. The new 1197 at the Show has a 10.4” colour display and full GPS and chartplotting capabilities. The advanced 1197 unit is a state of the art sonar but there’s plenty of choice on the Marine Electronics stand whatever your boat. Fishin’ Buddy portable fishfinders (right) come with their own power supply and integral transducer shaft. They are compact and can be clamped to any transom or gunwhale or even a pontoon or a jetty. Minn Kota are mainly known for electric outboards but there’s another way you can save fuel – and that’s with the new Minn Kota Trim Tabs which improve a boat’s performance, give a more comfortable ride and improve fuel economy. UNBEATABLE VALUE FOR ALL THE FAMILY

Johnson Outdoors UK will undoubtedly have one of the cheapest boats at the Show with the Yak Sport from Ocean Kayak which is only £249 and can be used by adults and children alike. The new 9’ 9” (2.97m) Mysto is £329, the Scrambler 11 at 11’6½” (3.6m) is £379, the 11’ (3.3m) Caper Lady Angler is £439 and the Peekaboo at 11’11” (3.7m) is £449. For 2/3 seater recreational sit-on-tops the 12’ (3.7m) Malibu Two is £399 and the 13’ 4” (4.1m) Malibu Two XL is £489; prices of the 2/3 seaters include backrests.

Kayak Fishing

For the fishing kayaks the new Prowler Trident 11 at 11’5”
(3.5m) is scheduled to be £629 and the new Prowler Trident 13 at 13’6” (4.1m) is scheduled to be £659. The Prowler 13 at 13’4” (4.1m) costs £529, or £559 for the Angler edition; the Prowler Trident 15 at 15’7½” (4.8m) is £699 (right). The Malibu 2 XL Angler is 13’4” (4.1m) and costs £569.
From Old Town canoes and kayaks will be available in a variety of materials including PolyLink3™, SuperLink3™ and Royalex™. Prices and specifications vary. The relaunched Discovery 119 at 11’9” (3.6m) is £549 , the new Discovery Sport 15 at 15’3” (4.7m) is £899, the Discovery 158 (4.8m) is £649 and the Charles River 158 is £699. In ultra lightweight Royalex™ the Charles River 163 (5m) weighing just over 28kg (62lbs) is £999. The new Vapor is 10’ (3m) long and is £335 in standard form and £375 for the XT version with hatch and deluxe seat. From Necky’s best selling touring range a Manitou 13 is 12’ 10½” (3.9m) long and costs £549 and the Manitou 2 Tandem with a rudder is £799 and has a length of 14’8” (4.5m).
The Eliza Sea Kayak and Tourer is 15’3” (4.7m) and complete with hatches, bulkheads and rudder costs £899. The price of the stunning new advanced composite Chatham 16 is to be confirmed.
Built by AIRE, the Tomcat Solo inflatable kayak is 10’3” long ( 3.12m) and costs £299. The Tomcat Tandem is 12’9” (3.89m) and costs £399. Electronics: Fishin’ Buddy units start at £119.99, 9” x 9” Trim Tabs with a standard switch and short stroke actuators are £379 and Humminbird Side Imaging Units start at £999.
