Humminbird has introduced a new marine GPS/WAAS receiver which gives position accuracy to within one metre. The AS GR High Accuracy receiver is sold as a compatible upgrade for Humminbird’s 700, 900 and 1100 series of GPS combination fishing systems, sonars
and chartplotters. No changes to a unit’s existing software are required when installing the new high
accuracy receiver.
The receiver uses 50 channels which give a lightning fast position fix because they can sweep the sky rapidly for satellite radio positioning signals. This receiver is also highly sensitive so it can keep a
fix when the signal is poor. At present there are 32 GPS orbiting satellites with 24 on line at any one time. Because this HA receiver has multiple channels searching for satellites it is always resolving and
correcting to get the best fix. It uses advanced algorithms to calculate position accuracy to less than one metre. The HA receiver has a very fast cold start acquisition time and can lock on typically within 30 to 45 seconds. It also runs on a lower voltage so conserves power. This means that with the AS GR HA receiver boat owners have
the ultimate in position accuracy. Fishermen and divers can locate marks with precision and also find marks they have laid themselves, for example when they have put bottom structure on a flat seabed in order to attract marine life. Navigators can track back waypoints and routes exactly and have more confidence in their position fixing in dangerous areas, at night or in fog.
Another advantage is that in 2010 it is planned that Galileo, the European Satellite Navigation System, will be operational. When this takes place, this High Accuracy multichannel receiver will be able to track an even greater number of satellites.
The Humminbird HA receiver is priced at £199.99.
