Does anyone try for a springer salmon on the Esk or is it just not worth trying.
The Esk has had a stocking from Kielder in the past .
I wonder if these fish will be comeing back as spring fish.

Near enough a total waste of time I reckon.
Sea trout aside- its primarily a back end river.

People do try for the Springer or which there will be a few entering the river, the river conditions never seem to suit the Esk for spring run salmon. Summer and Autumn suit the Esk.
As for the re-stocking, it has gone on for many years of which has and is being proven to be a success. The only problem with taking the salmon stocks for stripping in the Autumn, they in theory are only bringing back Autumn run fish.

The rivers will be in flood again i suppose.
With the price of petrol to get on the banks we might as well say we are doing our bit for conservation and hope we get a few decent days when the seasons in full swing.
Its a funny game this fishing lark.
Good job i dont need fish for my survivel.
Tastes better though when you eventually land one for the pot.
