Funny how the police need the public to help them....no witnesses, no information no results.....in times gone by folk had respect and yet that was before P.A.C.E when admissions were flawed and beatings a plenty....yet a few speeding tickets etc and folk won't help the police yet expect a magic wand to be waved over crime !

Every action creates a reaction and vice versa

The thing is Dave, we dont realy blame the police for the lack of effort, it is the political correctness that holds them back , but to be honest the reports we see on tv are doing them no good either, look at that woman deputy chief constable, she doesnt exactly fill you with confidence,as was the interviews with the chief constable of cumbria, they look like plonkers, sound like plonkers, and do not give me any confidence in them , NOW look at Ray malon who was left to sort out my area after his chief constable went on a mission to god knows whare so he didnt have to face the music of past transgresions, , but i do feel for the rank and file coppers many of who are my friends who i have a pint with in my local cricket club, all good men just towing the line .

Spot on that man....well said Harry.Ray Mallon has certainly cleaned up the Boro.
I too have some very good friends who are both serving and ex police officers. The lads who left did so because of sheer frustration and red tape.
It is easy for people who live in low crime areas to criticise other peoples comments but the simple truth is frustration and lack of action towards known trouble makers, drug dealers and petty villains makes the majority of the general public living in such areas very critical of pc plod no matter how unjustified it may be.

And why is there the lack of action ? What is that down to ? The blame lies with the governments that have slowly eroded the budgets away and this year yet again forces are having to make massive budget cuts......

Having a strong leader like you say is a good thing, our force area suffered at the hands of the last Chief constable.....how ?

He listened to the public who told him they wanted policing to be like it used to be....so he took cars away from front line officers to put 'bobbies on the beat', he wasted 27 million pounds on small satalite police stations , he disbanded specialist units, did away with tarffic patrols, initiated a no pursuit policy of stolen cars, shut down a burglary unit. All because the public thought that the way policing was 30 years ago was how it should be now.
All the officers said he was mad and that it would fail and it did big time.

I have to agree that the 80's throw back deputy doesn t create a positive modern 'go get him' perspective ...but she is a business woman , she won't be making policy decisions on the investigation to find Moat, she is doing the PR work. elow her making the decisions will be the command team who will be working with other specialists.

I think the ground he has to go at with nothing to lose he has a great deal of time yet and it will no doubt be a while before he makes an error or like in most cases a chance meeting/confrontation brings things to a head.

Of course the other possibility is that he may already be dead..........nothing to lose , nothing to look forward to but life back in jail.......he could have hidden himself away and shot himself....no thermal image camera will find that. No sightings for a few days no more updates, his helpers arrested....it is a possibility

He could also be nowhere near the area at all with help from his accomplices. After all they do stick together hence the 2 already charged with helping him and the further 2 helping police with enquiries.
Cowards usually do not self harm Dave so very much doubt he has shot himself.

Prudom shot himself after a blazing exchange of shots in Malton, 14 years agao in Hull a man walked into a Jewellers shop with a gun and then after the robbery fled across the city on foot shooting at officers before turning the gun on himself...he was also wanted for murder in an other European country.

Not sure about this bloke being a coward.........lets just hope that if there is any more loss of life it is only his and not someone else.

Pardon me for offering an opinion Dave and I seriously don't understand where you are coming from on this one.
I fully agree that the only good outcome would be for him to top himself and also, like I have said before, I have nothing against plod, indeed I have some very good friends in blue. (Both C.I.D and armed response, one being a marksman involved in this case)
I do however think, for whatever reason, the Police have been proven severely lacking in this situation.
3 murderers committing suicide in 14 years is hardly the norm and has got to be the minority considering the amount of murders and attempted murders committed in the UK in the last 14 years don't you think ?

Foo no need to apologise matey, you are entitled to your opinion....your earlier post was a little strong....but you clarified that afterwards and I agree with some of your points.

My reason for the above was just demonstrate that other people in a similar position to Moat have ended things themselves......which was just in response to your point about cowards not self harming not in general regarding murders .

It is always easy to look in from the outside and critisise from the information made public by the press.

The failings I think go back to the release of him in the first place if the threat was real he should have never been released.

Who decides if he is released ? Probation, the home office,police....it's several agencies and it does look like there will be some accounting for actions after this one.

I just get sick of posts like this ......not by you I know......
Which offer no opinion , no reason and are so common which is a shame.

why do you get sick of them because you are one ??/

Langy every now and again you come on with a post that really doesn t deserve any response but here goes anyway.

At least when you join in a thread make it a post worthy of reading that at least contributes in a positive way ...think about what you post first....once you start to think a little maybe you will see that those occasional posts you make spoil your overall positive contribution to a good forum...your post the other day about your fishing trip with Smokey was a great read......then you come on with a very immature post on this one. At least most of the others throughout have this have offered some debate , some reason.

You have generalised and in your last post tried to make it personal....now grow up .

Langy you posts in general are good but by 'occasional' i mean every now and then you shout off on here and then somewhere later in the thread think about what you ve written and apologise.....why not think about what you write first.

In answer as to what have they done......does that really need answering, the local force have reqruited the other forces in the country, the RAF the Army etc etc....all that to try to bring this to a stop.....I would say that they have actually done a hell of a lot.....have they caught him ? No not yet he is doing a very good job of avoiding capture.

  19. langy

    langy Rockling

So the police don't do much then if the RAF and army are now involved ??

  20. Jellyworm

    Jellyworm Rockling

No Langy think about this.....are the police experts in everything.........when they are using forensic evidence do you think it is a bobby on the beat who carries out the scientific investigation ? No it is a scientiist at a lab.
When they are hunting murderers they use profilers to help work out who it might be.....in other words they use experts in what ever field they can to help progress things.

The police co-ordinate the investigation, so they will be working with experts in search, counter surveillance etc etc.
There will like Foo says be a lot of people on the ground working hard like his mate the fire arms officer.

See it's much better to stay on topic rather than get personal don't you think ?
