Read More Of The Bass Clubs Adventures Here.

Myself, Mike Marshall, Farron Truman, Simon Truman (Marine Chef), Daniel Bennett and Damien Townsend Met the guys from BBC Countryfile today. The gist of the story was we discussed our lives on the coast, our love of the area and the shoreline and our passion for fishing from the local shores. We also discussed how we socialise as a group of friends fishing and enjoying each others company locally and on our travels.

We discussed with them how and why we had formed our own fishing club with an emphasis on helping each other catch more and bigger fish and also on socialising together.

We had been speaking with Countryfile since November of Last year and we had set out three venues to explore and fish depending on weather conditions.

We had decided on Robin Hoods Bay so if we got Calm Conditions we could fish around the Bay Ness End area into the strong tides there, or if the weather was rough and from an easterly direction we could fish in the bay itself.

Second venue was to be Saltwick area giving lots of options for walking the shoreline and fishing in moderate weather conditions.

I had added a third venue of Runswick Bay where we would head if the weather was to be extreme. The bay itself offers some shelter from strong winds and the large offshore reef known as Lingrow Knock means the bay itself gets some protection from the rough seas.

Looking at the forecast yesterday it looked like we were going to get a full Northerly Storm today so we decided to head for Runswick Bay Today. I went up there yesterday with The BBC Research Team and showed them around the area.

When we arrived this morning the weather was quite calm and we felt we maybe had got the venue wrong. But within an hour we were sure we had made the right choice with rough seas growing in minutes and strong northerly winds meaning it was hard to stay on our feet.

We spent several hours with the film crew at Runswick. Running through why we loved the area and found it so special. We did some fishing and managed to catch some cod for the camera.

As the weather detiorated we headed to The Hart in for a pint at Sandsend.

We then took our catch back to The Marine Restaraunt where our good friend Simon Truman (Head Chef) cooked us our catch alongside some locally sourced shellfish and other delights.

We were filmed over lunch where we each spoke about our lives, Our work, and our relationships. The film crew seemed to want to pay particular interest to our closeness as friends and how we socialise and spend time on the coast together.

From start to finish it was a great day. Lots of laughs. All the usual Bass club comments were snook into the filming, and Mike Even managed to get in a comment about Wensleydale Cheese right at the end.
All The Countryfile team were an absolute delight to work with and despite the weather im certain we all enjoyed another great day on our amazing coastline.

The Program was on 31st January 2016

Excellent,,, poor lad, definitely used to warmer weather... there again you have to be keen to fish in that wind. At least it was in daylight and not snowing.

    enjoyed it.:D

I bet you are shocked at how long the filming took compared to the short length of video they have made. Having done a little myself i couldnt beleive a full day filming was cut into a few minutes !!!! I wonder how many times you had to walk up and down that beach. ???

Great to see north yorkshire fishermen getting time on prime time TV tho, well done.
