Whilst I have no doubt that there is the right plug for the right conditions, I strongly suspect that the popularity of a particular plug is more to do with anglers tastes than with the bass themselves.
From my 10 years or so experience of kayak fishing off the North Yorks coast, I've tried most of the plugs listed in the poll, plus many others not included. When trolling for bass, I usually fish with two rods and I use a different plug on each line, and I've found that virtually any plug will catch bass when I've been lucky enough to find them in numbers. I cannot comment on the best lures for casting into gulleys etc, as most of my bass have been caught whilst trolling for bass and pollack.
I also enjoy autumn fishing for bass from a favourite local rocky mark of mine in quite shallow water (without the kayak) and have come to a similar conclusion. When fishing in the dark or low light conditions, I have consistently caught bass using poppers, and the actual make of the popper has generally proved to be far less important than the presentation and movement of the lure.
In fact, as time has gone by, I've gradually replaced the more expensive poppers with much cheaper ones, and I've even caught bass using the cheap poppers purchased from Boyes.
