Winter Cod Fishing At Kettleness. Last Friday after dropping the youngest off at school i decided i would take advantage of the free time as the sea was well away. I decided to head off to Kettleness where i was greeted by quite a big sea, which looked a little too heavy from the top of the cliffs. As i got to the bottom of the rope it didn't seem too bad, just some weed in the back which as it happens stayed there. I started fishing at 1015, with tide ebbing some 2 hours by now. 8 casts 8 fish 4 of which where returned as they where only lip hooked. as the tide ebbed back further the bites became less prolific. A couple of casts resulted in no return until about 2 hours before low water. 2 casts 2 more fish. A quick check of the watch it was 1320, time to head off back for the school run. All in all a result for a 3 hour session in daylight. Bait was fresh crab. 10 codlings in 3 hours, 4 of which where returned. biggest was 5lb 9 oz. I returned on the Sunday and managed another 3 for 6lb odd to win the St Mary's match. I hope this will inspire you all to go out and catch a few. Thanks for reading cheers Col.
