What a year sea-otter 2 has had. The cod fishing in 2007 has been outstanding with some tremendous catches. January and February were plagued by the wind, but on the days we went to sea the cod fishing was very good. March and April saw shads starting to do the business with some cracking fish well into double figures making an appearance. Then in May and June it just went mad, June saw the best catches for 6 or 7 years with some lads struggling to get back to the car with the amount of fish they had caught. June really was a fantastic month, cod were everywhere and shads were once again the top lure, most of the sea otter 2 customers prefer using nothing else these days, with very light tackle its a pleasure to use these lures and they will take big fish including cod, ling and pollock. I have even had catfish on shads a rare fish these days. July and August were also good months with cod at first and then ling started to show in the latter part of August and into September. As usual September proved to be a massive month for ling with quite a few over the 20lb mark and one just under the 30lb. Winter is just around the corner and the ling will soon vanish, then its back to cod. Winter wrecking can be excellent if the water is clear, and the great wall of death ground at 26 miles can come alive with cod. Uptiding could also provide bumper catches this year, and judging by the summer fishing the winter months could be fantastic. Heading into the autumn months there is a real buzz in the air at Whitby with hopes high that it should be a big winter on the cod.
