Quick report from marske high to pier end.

my mate was off to-day having a run out in a boat he's about to buy.

area covered was Marske high down to pier end.

    returns were 3 ling to @ 10LB, 1 COD TO @5-6LB 2-pollock 3-5 lb

whiting but no mackerel, strange because at 1/2 tide back the gannets were

having their fill @200 yd's out from St Germains to Hazelgrove.

not clued up on water clarity etc, just a lot of run on.

seems they are still a bit scarce

I'll have to come down and raid your Ling stocks, only cod and Mackerel up this end.

Not sure where all the codlings are at the moment ??

The filey and scarboro festival weights have been pretty poor compared to recent years

have been pretty poor compared to recent years

could the reason be lack of sand eels ?

just been up to Gairlock & Sky local fishermen saying poor bait fish etc

    also up there.

Also out with Hebridian whale watching rib, skipper marine zoologist

reckoned on the Rona bank, Trodday Trench & Burma bank the

lack of sand eels has led to the reduction of minke whales this year.

if you remember last years abundance of both minke & dolphins

along our coast, we have only seen a couple of pods this year

    and 1 minke off huntcliffe.

cod even scarce when using good bait inside, where you would

get local fish after crab moult etc.

winter shore season may give a x-ref to how the year goes.

Bempton reports soon due (I hope).

keep to the "Groyne" area, you appear to be doing ok.

no Pollock that way? or are they migrating to pier end

    from the scars?

It's great for inshore work. I have Saltist that I use, I loaded it up with new braid last week, but the braids sh1te, it snaps if you look at it too hard.:( I haven't reloaded it with new braid yet, so the good old Mitchel got another outing.:)

last of the Summer wine, aye they were whining about poor

    returns all over this year.

loads of gannets diving again this morn, most in action this year.

if wind drops enough might try walk along to agars gap at dusk

    with rod etc.

might temp a schoolie/billet or two.

It's great for inshore work. I have Saltist that I use

time to get the old "sea screetch" out n try it in boat.
