    Nice report Glen,

we managed one shot with one of Martins lines last month.

its a great way to catch /return fish .

after renewing the hooks on the long line we used horse shoes every 10-15 hooks to ensure that the bait keeps on the bottom

do the commercial lads you went out with use a similar method ?

we found out how accurate you have to be, hit a bit of soft & the bigger whiting

seem to dominate that section of line.

seems you had a good day out

I did some lineing in the 80ss the most memorable times was when you shot worm lines on the big tides the size of the fish you got on line was incredible many in double figures and you had to shoot them in sand just before it got dark them hauled them next morning if you shot them to early starfish would smoother the bait it was allways best just as it was getting dark.

You hauled them by hand in those days when you grabbed the line to haul and there was plenty of fish on it the line would be pulling like hell what a feeling when you knew was to come and big fish was well .

Hi Matey, these lads werent that refined. Instead of horse shoes they used the odd stone here and there.

We dont use any weights on our lines just one on each end where the dhans are we use 3 lines with 300 hooks per line. ;)

Excellent read Glenn thanks for sharing with us.
Just out of interest were the lads using circle hooks on the lines.
In years gone by The lads down here in Filey use to shoot there lines in pitch darkness to get the best results. some days resulting in 250+ stone of prime cod they were only using size 17 mustard hooks otherwise known as spade ends.
    The good old days :)

Some hooks were circles yes, but not a majority. Makes you wonder if shooting in the dark would be better for them ??
