thanks quint, I have also had cod on bait off scalby ness point in about 45ft, if anyone wants a bit more space

more info regarding the finer details.

now it is getting closer the the forecasters are being kind to us, currently we are looking at 5mph ssw on Saturday morning with sea conditions.
    slight

we have had a bit of a chat & decided that it will be easier for all if we park the yaks on the beach in front of the Oasis cafe & weight in. some people are fishing the afternoon shore match, others are talking about having lunch the going back out to fish some more. with this in mind it has been decided to have the prize giving at the Scarborough Anglers Social Club 2-4, Friars Way, Scarborough, North Yorkshire YO11 1HN. in the evening to coincide with the weigh in for the shore match.
    hope this arrangement is Ok
the shore weigh in is 6-7pm with prize giving to follow
should make for an enjoyable end to the day, with the presentations and a few beers, a chance to socialise with the lads who are coming over for the weekend.

It s unusual to have the weigh in or prize presentation so late after a match ?

I think its being done to make it all that bit more special, rather than hand out a few bundles of cash on the sea front, it would make it a proper presentation with loads of heckling etc :cheesy: . This is still going to be the first 'proper' kayak match in the UK. The Exmouth match was abandoned, the one in Guernsey was just a little bit of fun and the main one in Wales was cancelled due to weather. I'm sure the winners will be ackowledged on the sea front but a proper presentation on the night would be fun. It will be all good for the promotion of the sport in front of the rest of our angling friends. Plus I think a few anglers dont want to hang around after the match as they are fishing the afternoon shore match.

Be nice to have a pint and meet the rest of the lads and the shore anglers on the night, I just hope everyone will be able to stick around or come back later ?.

Oh I don t doubt some of what you say Ken...but the match is a very very early start....then to end at lunch time but have to hang around til the evening is a very long day....what if you are driving and not local or staying overnight ?....you can't chill and have a few beers...if not fishing the afternoon match it is a long time to just kick your heels til the evening....I accept the sentiments in giving some the chance to fish the afternoon match as well...but for me and this is only my opinon, the kayak match is about the kayak match not being able to still fish the afternoon match at the expense of having to wait til the evening.
With such a late change to the event I for one can t change things to have the day free to attend the night and I know I m not the only one.

of course Dave, most of the prizes are cheques & if you win the kayak & cant be there in the evening, we will take your photo with it , i imagine it will need a bit of organization to get it home anyway. don't worry Rob if you win we will get it to you.

Kens comment is correct, it was felt it would be nice to make a proper presentation at the anglers, after the festival committee have made such an effort & invested so much in the competition.

Sounds good to me Dave theres a good bit of craic in the anglers club after the matches and it was something I really enjoyed when I fished the matches last year. Hopefully most of the kayak lads will make it and some of the other forum members just fishing the shore match will be present too. I shall look forward to it.

This info may have been more useful from a planning point of view a bit sooner than 4 days before the match !!

I have already made arrangements now that cannot be changed

As has already been mentioned, If you are travelling a bit but not staying over then its not a lot of fun hanging around for 7 hours in smelly gear with yaks on the roof and then not even be able to enjoy a couple of beers because you have to drive home :whatever:

sorry to come accross as negative but it is a little late in the day to make changes like that whn poeple have made plans.

Glass half mt again lads, if its a big deal i will talk to the committee again.

To be honest i thought our biggest worry was getting the weather, We were poised to move venue or whatever was needed to make this happen. now we look as though we have cracked it we dont want a silly argument like this to stop people coming.

What if we do it twice ?
  15. carpyken

    carpyken New Member

Twice is good, does that mean twice as much beer :cheesy:. As you say Dave its no big deal, do the presentation on the sea front and then have it acknowledged and re-read on the evening

If they are getting paid by cheque they cant spend it for 5 days anyway, whats all the fuss about,

as long as you get the recognition and the prize.

Dont let it bother ye Rob, no need to tell us which two that involves :whatever: .

Now if someone could just tell us how to fish the bay? Whats the bottom like? Sand or scars? Know uptiding has been mentioned . .

Rob, ...you should fish the match if you can...fair play if you don t agree with the changes at the late stages of the day but you should fish it if possible....as mentioned above you can have any winnings forwarded....

Ken there are issues other than the match change and the forum isn t the place for them to be discussed, that has been made clear via pm.

My opinion remains that the match has been advertised for a long time now and published in the brochures but then is changed......is the anglers club not available immeadiately after the match ?

I expressed my thoughts enough......the match should have just been held as advertised and left it to see how it ran....then afterwards look at what could have been better or changed....something not bust has been mended really.

I do hope that this doesn t detract from a possible success as it is ground breaking and can do nothing but good if it goes well.

I can,t see any reason why it can,t be done straight after the match then again on the night this will suit everyone. I must say I agree with some interaction between the shore a kayak anglers and for anyone staying over it would ideal.
