Its now well late into the spring festival and with a breeze from the south tommorow a big ebbing tide and murky water close in uptiding looks a very favourable option the lads onboard tommorow and up for trying to nail a stonker tight inshore they will be loaded with all the right baits to entice one if he is there the swell today was big from the north plus its a big tide a perfect combination to throw one tight inshore .

A few years ago in this competition we tryed the same tactic tight inshore after a big swell and of the lads lost a very big cod to a seal right at the back of the boat i actually had to handball for him as he couldnt do anything with it only for a bleeding seal to take it just as we were just about to gaff it the fish would have won the festival by a mile the 20lb cod leading this competition is a cracking fish and looks a very hard fish to beat but you just never know the lads are right up for it so fingers crossed i have sneaking feeling something special might happen tommorow.

Cancelled today the weather was borderline with the sea state didnt fancy bringing the lads a long was to send them home as it was it turned out ok but you can only go on the forcast .

Think it has to be said its been a poor show again with lost days due to forecasts was hoping to get out on Saturday and also see some of the bigger sized fish pulled over during the festival.

Interesting that no Pollack have come to the scales, so far in this festival. A couple of years ago i recall some good ones were caught, and possibly it was even won with one?
    Conditions to blame or what?

It was Spring 2009 or 2010 I believe. Think Nearly every winning fish was a Pollack.

It was Spring 2010. Seven of the top 8 fish were Pollack. The three biggest were all Pollack and only ounces apart.

I reckon they are there all the time if you target them. The only reason they went for them that year was because the cod were so thin on the ground and someone took off their cod goggles. Look at the first few results, some days only 1 prize was claimed..

Ive seen alot of marks over the festival on the wrecks that must have been pollock, but we haven't targeted them. Like Glenn says you need to target them properly rather than pick them up lures intended for cod accidentally

Well hopefully if we get out on Saturday might put some jelly worm on, then again who knows you might steer us to a nice big halibut :)

The big pollock in that festival all came off the same wreck 1st 2nd and 3rd all over 12lb sea -otter 2 came 2nd and we had quite a few pollock around the 10lb mark they all came off that wreck they were hitting the sidewinders from the bottom upwards the same wreck has been fished in this festival and no pollock some years they are in abundance and other years few and far between we have tryed fishing for them in this festival on other wrecks and no show ,
That year when those big ones were weighed in the algie was really bad every year seems be different .
