had a dodge over the mull yesterday with nicky, we ended up on the west side north of logan to see what we could winkle out the heavy weeded outcrops. we found it very slow early on especially on the bottom fished rods, fresh crab and fresh mackerel not getting touched, slow going with the lure rods too no sign of the small 1 1/2-2lb pollack which are normally here in fair numbers. It took a while to come but the first fish was a decent one at 5lb 10oz, took some taming on the lighter rod intended for the smaller fish we got smoked of a couple of fish in the next hour, just couldn't get there heads turned and they went to ground and lost them, so beefed the gear up and switched to redgill on a bass rod. we managed to land a few now between 2-4lb which still gave a good fight on the heavier tackle, but were still getting smashed off the odd better fish which we just couldn't beat, give them an inch and its game over pollack wins, straight hooks and lost lures, frustrating, lots of swearing but gets the heart pumping. there was a few wrasse in the gullies to crab baits between the pollacking but not much happening on the big rods apart from a couple of dogs. hoping to get back over soon for more than a day. which is never enough.
