A bit of calm weather.
Not a lot about yet, one keeper and several undersized. Anyone else get out?
Not yet, first trip of the year about 6 weeks ago, not had a chance to get out since but hopefully that'll change now as this contract is about at an end
Looking forward to some time off and abusing my boat for a bit
pic looks lovely
no reports off charters from whitby or hartlepool so guess nothing doing
We launched from Hartlepool Marina yesterday and spent most of the day between 3 & 6 miles off Huntcliff/Skinnygrove. As you say, the sea was calm tho' it rained most of the afternoon. We had the best day this year by far, about equal quantities of good sized cod and pollock and 3 smallish ling. we finished up with our Icytech icebox full. No sign of mackerel as yet.
just got this report in
not doing too bad, things starting to pick up hopefully.
quite a bit being caught off the Tyne cod and ling into double figures, charter boats taking up to 60 fish private boats getting reasonable catches from close in and a few boats have reported their first mackerel
A few fish about today, weather to die for.
Well done Steve. Been putting a shed and greenhouse up, and a patch to put on the sib, but will be out soon.
B*gger the shed, you can do that when the weather turns, get that boat out. Off out again this morning with Chris.
Another fine morning with a few fish as a bonus.
Anyone else get out?
last weeks reports,
tues 23rd, launch from saltburn 7 ish, water clear 120 ft off pier end.
two long drifts plenty of mops returned, kept 30 better fish, 2 small ling
returned, back ashore at slack water. hokkis only tried.
wed 24 th,
went from marske in own boat, earlier start 5-30 due to 1st trip with raised
stern & outboard trim to ascertain for best position.
trim adjusted as we steamed up to huntcliff area.
as tues, plenty of mops, 21 keepers of better stamp, 1-rod using bait
mussel/cuttlefish, me using shads. even stevens with returns on these
1st few gannets out, couple diving near pier end, 3 mile mark
mackerel might be soon inshore. at slack water back in ashore.
out from marske 6ish,
bigger tides making so quick run out to pier end,
11 keepers, two doubles to bait, shads a bit "slower" to-day.
2-red gurnard returned, very early for them?
1 double had a big rhub/custard shad in gut, hook had been
dissolved but plastic non the worse, run on before slack water
so back ashore.
msw looks crap for a while yet so cabin fever will soon ensure again.
excellent report thank you
Well done Brian, the fish we've had where like peas in a pod, nowt bigger than 4lb.
hoping to "dash" out in morning for a few hours,
slacker tides, hope to have a decent morning,
maybe some macky for we bbq.
Went out this morning, t'was a bit choppy,
I was back on the beach in less than 2 hours. Managed to get half a dozen, nowt special, best about 3.5lb. At least the fish are a bit closer in now.
Andy Thomas was out on his own this morning, got some nice fish, think he kept 20 odd ranging from about 3-6lb, starting to come on well on the shads
If you see Andy about he's got an Orkney 520 with a yellow hull and white canopy, he'll be off tomorrow and so will Bry Joyce and crew from Marske
He was just landing at Granville when I came in. Chris is out with me tomorrow.
Well done lads, Nice to see a few fish, Going to try and get out next week.
