Exactly, it is an 'Angling Festival' afterall and not a cod fishing festival. The truely skilled anglers will fish the match to catch what is going to win them that match. If the mackerel weren't there but the codlings were in huge numbers then no doubt nobody would be critisised for turning up to the scales with a good bag of mops.

It's match fishing and as Glenn and Rob have said ....fish to the rules...or fish for what you want but accept that you might be beaten by an angler using their head on that given day.

I ve really enjoyed seeing the reports from the matches and wish I could have been out having a go. Sunday will be my first chance to get the rock gear back out since last November.......I f anyone see's me down under Bempton keep an eye out for me and make sure I stay on my feet this time

You been swimming too Pete, I got a good dunking on sun :embarrass:

Regards the maccy, that's the rules, but talking to anglers who take part in the festivals I can't recall anyone getting excited about fishing for them. The bottom line is how many anglers do they attract to the festivals and how many do they put off. I,ve had them boiling in front of me before and ignored them, more fool me maybe, but that's my choice. It,s my choice wether to fish the matches or not too and next year I will be more selective in which ones I fish.
I don,t hear anyone grumbling about the anglers by the way and rightly so. Anyone who carries up 50lb of maccy has my utmost respect

ha haaaa, yes, pete's now infamous stepping stone attempt to get on the high brigg at high water on sunday, me and dave did'nt know who it was (who's this muppet we were saying), after ten mins of trying we watched him take what looked like a leap of faith, and splash, backover he went, head and bucket just visible, well we were splitting our sides, and couldnt believe it when pete came splodging onto high brigg, to make matters worse a few minuits later richard cappleman walked on bone dry
