Quick question - Given that I live in-land and can't easily collect fresh bait, are frozen peelers any good?

Last Cod season I just fished with frozen Black Lug, Squid and Mussels and am looking at getting a bit more adventurous this year :gum:

Frozen peelers are an excellent bait and it,s not rare for them to outfish fresh at times, but if you buy them make sure they,re peeled and wrapped. If they are still in their shells you can,t be sure at what stage of peel they were at or wether they were still alive prior to them been frozen. Hope this helps.

Yes sound advice from Ray there. Its best to collect your own so you know what you have got is top quality. Beware shops selling crabs still in the shell as they are often nowhere near ready to peel when they are frozen.

They do make an excellent bait and there comes a time in the autumn season (Around November) where they will start to fish as well and even outfish fresh peeler crabs.
