had a couple of hours to-day hard in 15-20 ft depth

water gin clear so tried shads, a few keepers to 7lb,

plenty of jumbo mackerel (seem even bigger than last years stamp).

on kelp tops only 2 Pollock to 3lb still they fight well in this shallow

    area, lots of mops returned.

tried out a bit when potters "invaded" we left st Andrews & tried out side

but wind pushing us across tide/marks (even when using drogue)

2 "warthogs" A10 tankbusters? had a run down towards us pretty awesome

better forcast for tues so will be venturing out to a couple of marks not tried

yet this year, wed -day off due to f/cast ,rest of week looks good for us

so has summer finally turned up & we can have a decent few sessions.

ps. amount of mops hard in anyone using crab could have a good session

    from the shore.

Nice to get out I'm a bit stuck at the moment only getting Sundays off. Bye the way how big is the drogue you use on youre boat.

    Hi,

drogue in use was "ex" kids trampoline , had cobbler at mske stitch

4-off metal "lugs", 2 at ten to hour n ten past, 2 twenty past & twenty to

(if you get my drift) two "leaded ropes for bottom, two ropes with old salmon net

    floats on for top rope.

@ 10ft length for all 4 ropes, noose in ends, (10mm blue gpo rope)

join with cariban ? to single rope @10ft long for placing round

central seat to ensure drift side on for fishing access.

bit big for boat but effective,

also a good bet is a silk 1-man "glastenberry" type tent

@10£ at go outdoors or ask grandkids to bring a couple

back from festival as loads left abandoned.

    hope this helps.

    forgot to mention size,

6ft circular one with 10" centre opening.

you could also use a small sand/gravel type bag with 4 straps/lifting lugs

with square filling flap, making a small exit hole rigged as explained earlier.

Sounds a good system, my boats 16.5 ft explorer(similar to a warrior) do you think I'd get away with a 4ft drogue or would 6ft be better. I have no problem getting hold of tarps and rope carabina's etc.

Theres a ready made one here Trev

Drift Anchor BOAT DROGUE for Fly Fishing & Sea Fishing - HALF PRICE RRP £34.99

That should work well but I use the Wychwood one the para drogue

Wychwood International Para Drogue – Glasgow Angling Centre

Change the plastic end clips that you tie on to as they're not up to repeated use at sea, to pull in just motor up wind a little to pull the slack in and pull one side set of ropes in and it self collapses so you're not pulling all ropes in at once and trying to pull against the water that's inside the drogue, comes in very very easy, great for when the wind makes you wiz along too fast but the look on the other boaters faces when they go wizzing past you when you have your nose into the wind is great, drouges work better with a little weight to get them to sink down past the surface water which is travelling faster than the water 6ft further down

so you're not pulling all ropes in at once and trying to pull against the water
    that's inside the drogue,

    Bri,

with the centre "openening of @10" as you retrieve the drogue you just pull on

the two "float"lines & no resistance as it empties as you pull it in.

    Trev,

ill see one of bris mates (Arthur) he may have a couple for sale as hes just bought two

fully kitted boats -pebble coble-Orkney longliner

he may have a silk one like bri ,s post

    ill pm you t0-morrow.

probably whale time again soon. poor outside.

marske high on way back plenty of good size mackerel & @ 10 lb ling.

    did you get out ?

as you like your shallow Pollock fishing, when you do get out some

decent ones in gin clear water >10ft & bonus bass to 6lb at daybreak

cattersea area. go on you know you wont resist when you get off.

Caught a dab last night on daylights over hard ground, that was a first for me, poor night with too much bloom (plankton) inside , nothing on the plugs even though it looked just right for a proper pollock night, we ended up with a dozen or so mackeral, there was loads around tight in but we tried to avoid them last night and try for pollock, managed two last night of about 3lb a piece and one codling of a half decent size that went back in

All in all a poor nights fishing but still better than sitting in and watching the box

How did you fare Trev, my battery died on the radio, some nugget left the strobe light on by accident and flat it went, wonder who that was

Seems to be tough going inside this year I managed to get young Jack into some fish Saturday and have been getting a few good crabs and lobsters free diving East scar the water is packed with baitfish and massive shoals of juvenile Cod and Pollack never seen so many Saturdays session blog post here Cleveland Coast Kayak Angler: 23/07/2016

Great video that Andy, nice to get a different perspective on whats there underwater, looking better and better every year with regards to how many small and juveniles there are swimming around the scaurs so more hope for the future

Theres tons of slump (plankton or bloom) in the water and your video shows how much and I reckon thats why the fishings so poor, pretty warm water and tons of algie bloom dont make for good fishing conditions even if the waters gin clear

Keep em coming Andy, well apprecieated, guessing you havent been out too much either judging by your blog

Seems to be tough going inside

certainly was for another father & son yakking duo ? this morning as

breeze picked up around huntcliffe & lead yak "towing" following one.

still bloom about, tried down towards grove -hummersea marks

still as patchy as fan house /greens area.

poor show 6 keepers, 3 Pollock to 3lb returned abundance of mops.

pier end marks seem to produce better this time of year, normally

spring fishes better there or is this just a slow start to the seasons?

nice to see posts from you again andy.

trev, re drogue Arthur is on hols so cant find out if he has any for sale.
