After recent mop mania today was slow, poorest for any cod of size for a while. Bait free session, shads, hokkis etc etc, only 2 keepers 5-6 lb, wind main problem, Not able to drift along marks, drogue no better, just blown out over, minimising time Over marks. Tried inside, mid water marks, all poor. Boredom resulting in mackerel session for pot bait, quick box of bigger mackerel, By catch of a dozen decent red n grey tub? Gurnards ,water very clear, could see mackerel Taking lures in shallows as they were herding bait fish, quick silver flashes and they broke Away when hooked. Better towards w.e wind wise.
did better than us lads on saltburn pier tonight prob 15 anglers one maccy caught i left at 8.15 lovely night though
I often find it slow on plastics at this time of year but add mackerel to the plastics and it can transform your day. I've also noticed that a lot of local mackerel seem to be congregating around the wind farm, obviously good feeding in that area with a bonus of permanent mackerel off the gare at any time of tide and plenty from the beaches in that area at low tide if you see birds diving with the odd bass as a bonus. Ken.
Bit better today, Double figure ling ,kept dozen cod to 6lb, Spectacular breaching of dolphins pier end ship inn, herding mackerel into huntcliffe? Many jumbo mackerel again. No mackerel tipped hokkis used, cod taking shads. Lot better drift due to slight breeze, managed to go along make, not across.
You'd better get a move on, seasons half over. A bit of lift on this morning, nowt on the beach though. Fishing was slow, 3 Pollock to 4lb and a few codling to 2lb, non deep hooked so all returned.
Expected lift today had rest day. To be honest , finding Pollock better option -more sport. Will be returning most cod due to worms in fillets last trip. Pleased freezer has prime earlier worm free fillets. Having a early start in morning, fish through flood should be less lift. Talking to guy mason today a few Pollock now been taken on float on Lower deck Whitby west, east side too. Hope that bridge on east is part of harbour walls o/h.
