Decent f/cast ,slack tides maybe better chance of better fish about.

Started fishing on start of flood tide, water clear still after overnight rain

Using shads managed plenty of mops & 2 cod @4/5lb kept on 1st 2 drifts.

Bit of wind n tide pushing us across and not along marks so drogue used

    To hold steady drift.

Nice double cod & ling , both feeding on butterfish & squat lobsters,

Quiet spell so move to another mark, more mops ,blegs billet & lone mackerel.

Potters moving gear hard in so tomorrow a few more marks will be gear free.

Ended up dozen cod, ling & a few mackerel.

Shads used no daylights were harmed during this trip, amazed at how mackerel take shads

On a fast drop, will be trying "stripped butterfish" type shads to morrow as the fish seem to be

    Gorging on them not spratts.

Plenty of potters had cod in pots so talpi squat lobsters etc must be moulting so options

    For inside look better.

    Regarding squid ,

On Sunday we had a couple of cod with chewed up squid in the mouth

No boats near us & not using bait all day we thought possibility of squid bing local.

Few years back had them with cuttlefish coughed up then BRI carragher told us

He had a good box of cod same day in deeper water full of cuttlefish.

Had to buy a bulk order for long lines and winter shore fishing .

Long lines baited 50/50 squid n cuttlefish results of catch rate no different.

    Shore fishing,

Not too bad when tipping of or use in cocktail, bigger fish when used whole

    (Small ones) on pennel.

Ink lovely for soaking baited snoods as they defrost.

Time to get flask having another run off this morning.

    Varied results today,

Plenty of mackerel early on, bonus couple of herrings, squid still there (see previous post)

Couple bigger ones kept for winter bait, nice green luminous membrane as they were exposed

    To air.

Too many mops with attitude giving good fight, most 60ft depth,

Plan for inside session cut short with hectic pot moving.

Kept just the 1 cod 8/9 lb.

No spratts but fish alarm bleeping often on 25ft top surface setting,

Perhaps these squid? Not consistent enough for herring /sprats & no muck in water very clear.

Few more boats out but all seemed to be dashing about in quest for elusive sizable cod.

Poor day today, decent sized fish were hard to come by, only 3 keepers.

6 kept today, all at 100ft,mops aplenty inside, still poor.

Few spur dogs/huss in silent 1 nets, rock salmon for sale on the slip allegedly.

Last chance in morn for a few days.
