I don't think its up to Glen to do anything about it, you can't make individuals or clubs post if they don't wish to. I was secretary of the said club for a number of years and used to put the match results in the Gazette along with a report where the fish came from, this proved unpopular so I resigned, but I still respect other peoples right to not post or inform who ever.
Next thing you will be having a go at the likes of Buzz, Ray and Quint for not informing you of the exact venues where they do the business.

    Cheers

    Hi Les,

I agree 100% mate. The club is nothing to do with me and not for me to sort anything out. I do feel rather sad that we cant have match results and pictures on the site as it just ads something else of interest for people to read. The majority of people who come to this site are honest lads who like to read about fishing and then go out and try better their own catch rates. Belonging to an online community allows them to take some information and help in return for their contributions to the site when they have something they can share, this is how it works. A little too often people take the info without giving anything back, but we shall not delve too far into that one at the moment.

The fact that the lads are telling me they are actively discouraged from posting on the site is not good. Three years on the trot I have been told by people that they have been forbidden to post anything about the club on the site. Very recently a lad apologised saying "I really enjoy the site, but its just not worth the hassel to post now because of the stick I get at the weigh in, Im really sorry about that !" Also I now have it from club officials that it has been forbidden by the committee to post any information on this site. If the club would like to come back to us and explain the decision on that I shall leave the door open to them, but request that they dont come to the site for any publicity for their events or prizes for that matter until they start being a little less hostile. I really fail to see what all the fuss is about people sharing information.

News in the tackle shop is that Matty Garbutt won again this Wednesday with a 20lb bag of cod from Hummersea. Well done to Matty who seems to be putting some consistant fishing together. Must be worrying a few of the clubs long standing members now.

If the members of Whitby Sea Anglers who wish to post and participate aren't man enough to stand up and be counted then God forbid. What are they men or mice for Christs sake be your ownself and bollocks to anyone who doesn't like it, you don't have to get on anyones good side but your own.

I agree les if you want to post on here wat people weighed in then do it who gives a shit about people moaning at the weigh in its your own choice to post on here its only fishing. And fish that have got caught and weighed in have already been caught so if people who go chasing wat people caught a few days before and think thats how it works they are wrong and wont do any good anyway

Please keep us all informed of how you do Ben, and I wish you well for this season. We are all interested in club results, not just Whitby club I hasten to add. I like to hear results from all matches. This cod secrecy nonsense, where ever it hides, club, open or otherwise, needs blasting wide open. Fishing is for everyone not just a select few.

Your spot on Ben, you cant catch again whats already been weighed in. Theres no need in my mind to post any exact details of where you catch your fish, just the fact that they have been fish caught is enough. Dont forget that if theres enough lads who feel the same way you can always start your own club. How do you think WSA in its present format came about ? :butt:

Myself and Mike had a conversation in summer about starting a friendly club, where the aim is to share and help each other progress. I wonder if it would be possible, or would that desire to suceed at the expense of others still come shining through. Maybe clubs are destined to fail in respect of sharing info ?

I know through my summer bass bass fishing that I have progressed a hell of a lot, and most of it has been through the help of lads like Dan, Damo, Mike and Quint. Maybe there is more to gain through sharing than there is to loose?

The other downside about secrecy is it's effect with youngsters, there are not many coming through from what I can see, and a close shop further alienates the future blood of sea fishing, and without them all the open matches and clubs will go to the wall, still I suppose we can all play "bass fishing" on the ps2 or is it 3 now, maybe 4

It happens in 99% of clubs.
I remember when i started out in filey club at about 16 years old,i "dared" to stand next to and fish next to one of the clubs still head honcho's.
I was asked to move to another mark as it wasn't on me fishing next to him,the same person used to lie through his teeth to the juniors in the club at that time when asked info at weigh ins.
The same person now can't understand why there is no juniors coming through the club,it's funny how things come full circle though,as i started fishing one of "his" holes at RHB about 3 years ago,he usually turns up 5 minutes before the match start and stands on my shoulder even though the hole is 500 yards long.
I reckon he's done it half a dozen times to me and i've destroyed him each time, the most memorable 2 years ago,i had 8 fish for 20lb and he had 2 mops,it made me feel so good at the time.

I am sure I am not alone in my thinking that most anglers take part for the sheer pleasure rather than the competitive side of the sport. I think this has been proven by the success of this site and from the site has developed the friendly North vs South matches that have been organised.
Many participants in this sport of ours take as much pleasure from the being 'away from it all' whilst fishing with others as taking a few fish home to eat simply puts the cherry on the cake so to speak.
For many anglers the cost of participating is getting very hard to justify due to spirralling fuel costs and if your an inlander like myself bait comes in as a significant cost too.
Over the last two years my shore fishing has improved dramatically thanks to the friendly nature of the people whom I have met and gained information from.
I cannot understand the club secrecy at all. I have bumped into lads who are fishing matches and some have been willing to share info on the area I found them in. I wont name names to avoid trouble!
I have been fortunate to bump into some anglers who have willingly escorted me from car parks to marks and given very detailed information as to how, when and what bait will work.
As has already been highlighted chasing fish reports is futile as the fish have already been caught and the tide and conditions will of moved the fish elsewhere.
In conclusion I feel that if a friendly network of anglers were to be set up it would be overwhelmingly popular, a pleasure to be involved with, would further many peoples enjoyment of the sport and hopefully remove the blinkered perspective of the club committees as to which direction the future success of the sport lies.

Just looking at the amount of hits to this topic. Its amazing how the hits keep building up long after the topic has slid off the first page.

    here here,
whats the secrectivity about ,keeping venues where fish have been caught is rubbish ,everyone who fishes knows that fish can be there one tide and gone the next so whats the big deal,
i thought the forum was about giving help and advice which is why theres info regarding venues ,what bait to use and more on here ,its there for all to see.
if you dont like what the forum is doing dont use it ,its that simple.
