Sorry I cant help with the results although i will enquire if its possible to get hold of them as they happens so we can post them up as Adrian did for Filey. However i was there in the morning, firstly I was slightly relieved that following cancellation of the kayak comp the weather was as predicted & would have stopped us. disappointingly the first boat comp also had to be cancelled.
I had volunteered to lend a hand with the junior parr competition which has been made a catch & release event for the first time. myself & Andy Crowe were tasked with looking after the east pier, with two more had the lighthouse pier.
with not much water fishing was rather slow even Ian Thompson's expertise was failing to produce results for his two proteges
this young chap was down with his parents who admitted to knowing nothing about fishing which was a great disappointment to him as he is apparently obsessed by it (good lad)
with the measuring duty's being rather slow Andy left me with it and decided to give the lad the benefit of his vast knowledge.
after sorting out his rigs & teaching him how to cast 200yds the boy was soon transformed into a fish caching machine
As the competition came to an end most of the competitors were catching & the catch & release was a big success, with the fish being held in a bucket until they could be measured & released
the prizegiving at the coffee pot was just as well received as the all England & unsurprisingly a very familiar name was on the cup with miles I'anson top angler with over 2 metres of parr. Andy's new friend was delighted with 5th place & a new reel. his mum asked what time the shore weigh in was as he wanted to come down & see what Andy caught, I do hope the poor lad wasn't disappointed
the turnout was a bit disappointing, but those that took part really seemed to enjoy it & perhaps next year a few forum members will consider taking there offspring down.
