Kayak Fishing For Pike - yak caught pike
« on: April 10, 2008, 09:35:18 PM »
Went to the coast to go yakking this evening but to much chop on so decided on a local lake I have paddled on before. Great fun practicing plugging and trolling with one little pike of about 4lb to show for it

Shame you can't take the yak onto Motorway pond....had pike to just under 30lb from there.....then there would be a fair crack at the bigger carp....I know where they hold up in spring just never had the night ticket to fish the H&DAA CLASS A waters ...only ever had a class B pass.

Be good to see on the fishfinder Dave  . Noticed on Dacre the fishfinder was spot on showing shoals of roach n rudd and weed formations - looked like a bl**dy fishtank

Great report Ken, I'm looking forward to some Piking from the yak this year for sure. Hope to have a few sessions up in the Lake District all being well, will be heading out on to the Tees as well. Will be nice just to fish from a yak, no matter what I fishing for  :cheesy:

Cheers mate, I just love the lakes, I paddled Derwentwater a couple of years ago, dieing to get back up there. The scenery is amazing from water level  . Only ever fished in Cumbria once and that was on Eshwaite for trout from a boat, great fun

Well if you ever fancy a session yakking for Pike in the Lakes then give me a shout Ken, I've plenty of Pike lures if you are short of any

I used to boat fish Derwent years ago, great place with loads of features. Unfortunately by the time I was just sussing out the place I stop fishing  but I'm very keen to get back over there. Hope to be over there in May sometime.

sounds great to me mate  . We have stopped at that campsite right on the banks of Derwentwater with Keswick in staggering distance  . Some great launching from there, also if you a little adventerious there are a few grade 3 whitewater runs stright off the site - not sure if the Ocean yaks are suitable tho

Never stayed at that site Ken, I've stayed at the site just past Bassenthwaite though. Not sure if I'm suitable for whitewater never mind the ocean kayaks!  :scare: One step at a time me thinks

Like I say matey I fully intend to Pike fish the Lakes in May so if you are interested then we'll have to get something organised. I have a few waters that I think could be well worth a go, including good old Derwent Water  :cheesy:

I need to get out the yak first and get used to it before fishing but hopefully that won't take to long.
