SUNDAY’S WEST HOUSE qualifying match for the big final was a sell-out, but the fishing proved challenging.
A very strong entry, including three internationals, found the going tough and, despite fish rising everywhere in the cold bright conditions, only four were landed.
The afternoon session on Mill Lake brought a few more fish to the net.
After blanking during the morning, Chris Micallef, landed four on his first peg of the afternoon and another two later to seal victory.
Minor places were tight with five anglers ending with two fish, though Kevin McKimm, and Bill Webster and Don Jones qualified.
Away from the match scene, Gordon Swann and George English had a good day’s fishing.
Swann caught five fish and English topped off his day with a 14lb 12oz rainbow caught on a yellow lure fished deep and slow.
Top patterns this week have included Pinkies, Black Bloodworms, Black Buzzers, Blobs, Black Zonker and Dawson’s Olive.
