Hello Dave, haven't done much freshwater fishing at all this year so far  been out a few times sea fishing though.

I've got my Thornaby ticket  :cheesy: so I'm looking forward to fishing some of the waters. I'll be on the Swale soon to work on my fly casting (it's very poor!) and I'm keen to get on the Oxbow Lake  We'll have to have a session somewhere mate.

Hiya Sam.
No probs mate, just give me a shout when you fancy a session on the Swale or Ure. With regards to your casting, i'm sure we'll sort it out.  Ian will most probably be willing to help as well- like when we fish Cow Gree ressie or the Esk.  Its like everything else in life i suppose, some people struggle with some skills in angling such as fly casting or lure fishing. But i know the first person i'd turn too, to improve my freshwater lure fishing. How much do you charge Sam?

I think once people have been out a bit, especially as Easter Weekend is upon us that people will no longer have 'nothing to report'.
I did start my season at the weekend (Cumbrian trout season started on 15th) but despite cracking scenery it was still a bit early on the tarns.

Whats wrong with a Curly Wurly Sam?
With regards to going over the lakes, i'm up for it anytime, work permitting.  I've been plugging for pike on the Tees and a few other places, but i find the Tees to be more of a bait river for Pike, unless i'm just crap at lure fishing.  I've had jacks on pugs and 6 inch jack out on the fly and thats it, as far as the Tees goes that is.  My mate fished Yarm last week and saw a lad catch his first ever Pike-22lb. Then he had another one out that weighed just over 23lb. Not a bad start to his Piking career eh.

Question for you Sam.   Are there Pike in Ullswater?  I ask because, apparently there are no records of any being caught in that lake, which i find hard to believe.

I know Ullswater fished well for trout at the weekend- some up to 2lb.
It was lovely and mild around the lower lakes.

Can't speak for anyone else but I "lurk" around this forum because I'm in West Yorks and don't get over to this area as often as I would like.

For the freshwater fishing I might have more to say once the weather warms up a bit. I fish around Scarborough when I get the chance but I get the impression most people in NY are allergic to fresh water (can't say I blame you having all that coastline to go at). I was pretty surprised that you started a freshwater section.

On the Sea fishing side I'm strictly part-time and am not sure what I could contribute to those threads. Reading them though has taken me from "well it's summer and my Pike gear should be OK" to 15ft rod, 8oz lead, 5/0's, multiplier and big storm night fishing in two seasons. So this board can't be doing a bad job. (got my first Cod in Nov. during that end of the world storm surge - at night  :surprise: )

I don't expect people to give away their "marks" or other secrets. I enjoy reading about the fishing around NY so don't read too much into a high numbers of "lurkers" we are not all malicious

Welcome 3x2

You'll find us all a friendly bunch that are more than happy to give out advice and details of fishing areas, be it freshwater or sea. I only live 2 miles from the sea but I only started sea fishing last October, we have some great freshwater fishing in North Yorkshire as I'm sure you already know.

Sorry matey but you are not allowed to lurk anymore, I'm afraid you'll have to talk to us lot now instead :canadian: :embarrass: :ugly: :nerd: doesn't matter that you are in West Yorkshire, you are more than welcome.

That's a bit spooky - just sent the picture of your lure box(es) over to another forum. There's a guy on Yorkshire Fishing who is an out and out lure angler. Hope you don't mind.

My better half is from Scarborough so I get over there fairly often. I take the gear and get out and about whenever possible. My list of venues is a bit limited (don't drive) but I can usually get to Rosedale, Wykeham, Throxemby and, until they changed the rules, The Mere (think I might have to join). Even though I don't always catch much the Coast is my favourite venue ATM. There's something special about a beach at 3am.

I was looking at this weekend's weather and wondering if it's still worth getting on the train. Are there any Cod still around at this time of year? Like I said earlier I'm not after anyone's "mark" just a general idea as to whether the Cod are still around. It's OK for you lot but the closest I get to the beach most of the time is on webcams  :snore:

Psssst, 3x2 mate, Sam lends his lures out for a curly wurly anytime-but dont tell him i told you. But if you offer a Cadbury's Whisper, you'll get one his favourites.

No prob 3x2, perhaps you can post a pic of his lures? We can compare poppers, mines 9"  but only 4" when it's cold  :embarrass:

I like fishing Wykeham in the warmer months, nice place to fish

As for the Cod fishing, well, it's slow at the moment (well, it is for me!). Just been down to Runswick with Mattylamb, was getting bites but couldn't connect to anything

Glen I think it is because you have freshwater fishing above the sea fishing forum on the main page  and people are clicking on freshwater thinking it is the sea fishing forum , swap em round and see what happens . i always click on this one by mistake ......Cheers
