The start of a new season,What r your hope's and goals

well here we are again,The winter has been a long one AGAIN.
Brown trout fishing starts again March 25th and sea trout & salmon April 6th 'ish'. .
Each year i try and decide what i want to accomplish during the 6 month's on the river.2 years ago it was catch a salmon on fly,With access to really good water i ended up with 9 best 10lb.
Last year never really go going what with heavy rain during summer and work commitments ,so it's all hand to deck for this year.
This year i really want to beat personal best brown on fly 2.5lb(which was out from sleights).
Get my head around night fishing for sea trout(not everything that goes crack in the darkness is muggers and monsters ).

Im hoping to get into wild brownies and grayling this year. having fished the reservoirs for years i have got disillusioned with stockie bashing and want to get back to natural waters. Ive joined thornaby AA and Im looking forward to going for trout and grayling on their ure and swale stretches :)

Hi mattylamb,I've only caught a few grayling,beautiful looking fish.
Know what u mean by stockie bashing(get's a tad boring after a while),good if you've not caught owt for a while thou.

Even though I'm very much a fly fishing novice I'm really looking forward to the Trout season, my aim is to catch a 1lb+ wild brownie on the fly (had them to 2lb 2oz on worm on the last day of the season last year) but to be honest with you I'm just looking forward to getting out there fishing.
I like most types of fishing (apart from commercial venues) but there is something special about walking the river bank with a fly rod and everything you need packed in your vest. CAN'T WAIT!

Initially a few nice 1lb-2lb browns would be nice then once the migratory fish start running I'd like to hope for a double figure sea trout on fly- My best on spinner is 9lb and fly is 5.5lb.
I'd also like to hope I get off to as early a start this year as last when my first sea trout was on June 17th.

Oh, and I fancy locating some ferox but thats another matter altogether.

Salmon? Trout? I'm scouring your district for large Eel's this year. I have a bunch of potential venues lined up and I will be sat dead still in the middle of the night waiting for a run.

Out of interest (if my plan should fail) where (if anywhere) around North Yorks could I get to fish for Sea Trout at night on a day(?!) ticket basis with bait (never tried fly)? Don't mind putting them back BTW I can catch large (4lb) brownies a couple of minutes from my house and they all go back. Never caught a Sea Trout though.

Try Ruswarp on a warm Summer night that coincides with a big tide mate- I've had eels to about 4lb there.
The same stretch in similar conditions should hold a few sea trout as well and at £2 a day you can't fall off, as long as the seal hasn't come up the weir!
Do make sure you have the correct rod license though as it seems to be the part of Esk you are most likely to be checked at.

You could try the Tees as well for Sea Trout and Salmon. Some lads fish the Tees for specimen eels. If i remember right an angler took one out about 6lb about 18 months ago- dead baiting for them.
