Scaling Dam

Best catch     31 Anglers with a full limits.
Best flies     Variety of Fritz lures, Invicta, Kate Mclaren & Bibio.
Best baits     Worm and Powerbait,  Maggot.
Best areas     East end of the reservoir.

The trout at Scaling Dam have continued to feed consistently throughout the last week, despite strong, cold easterly winds. Fish have been caught from all areas of the reservoir and the rod average peaked at around 6 for the second week running. Both ends of the Dam Wall were the popular areas for bait anglers, with many taking full limits and, several fish of between 3lbs and 4lbs were recorded. Colin Greenwell landed the best rainbow of the week at 4lbs 10oz fishing with worm in the Dog Leg, on the Dam Wall.

The prevailing wind conditions restricted many fly rods to the Eastern end of the lake, which was in top form.  Some notable catches taken on fly included Mathew Garbutt from Skelton, who had a great day, keeping 8 fish for around 19lbs and returning a further 14. His fish were taken on a variety of Fritz lures.  It was also good to see more traditional wet patterns tempting fish. Les Wheatley also from Skelton returned 14 fish taken on an Invicta. Jeff Taylor from Middlesbrough caught an 8 fish limit on consecutive days on a Kate McLaren. With a further 900 fish to be introduced in the coming week, the lively action should continue.
