Mulberry Whin
« on: February 07, 2008, 09:07:18 PM »
Has anyone fished this venue who can offer any information, as i fancy booking a days fishing there this summer? It certainly looks good on their website, but because it has to be booked in advance, therefore, it would be worthwhile to know what it is like in adverse conditions.

Cheers

What concerns me most is booiking a day and it turns out being windy, which will spoil the idea of chalkstream fishing i suppose. Ian where do you get tickets for Costa beck?

Cheers Ian, i can't wait to give the chalkstreams ago again, like when i used to fish the Rye at Nunnington.  I also used to fish a place called "Elm Hag lake" near Kilburn which was a chalk lake and a gorgeous place to fish. Theres something special about seeing the fish you are targeting, isnt there.

Totally agree Davo, doesn't matter what I'm fishing for I much prefer crystal clear water. Clear water sometimes makes fishing a bit more harder work but well worth it.

Its one of the great aspects of game fishing Sam, seeing a trout or grayling rise for a dry fly in clear water.  Even watching them take a nymph or spider is just as rewarding.  It sort of lets you know that you are going to catch, a little bit earlier, than when fishing coloured water.

Well i've just booked a day at Mulberry in July and can't wait to go. Will take 3,4 and 5 weights to make sure i've got everything covered.  Might try that chippy in Wetwang on the way back Ian.

The Chippy at Wetwang is always busy whatever time of the day you call.

Trivia time: The late Richard Whitely was Mayor Of Wetwang.

Why I can remember such sh*te yet lock the house up on the morning with my car keys inside is beyond me!

Hope its a good day for you Dave.

Cheers Ian. Its funny you should say that, because when you mentioned Wetwang earlier, the first thing i thought about was  the programme Whitely used to present. He was talking of Wetwang on his show once and i always remember it. Think i'll go to the docs.

I've had two day tickets at Mulberry Winn, but a few years back.  The first was shortly after it first became available as a day ticket water.  Had a fantastic day, catching browns, rainbows and grayling.

Had a second day the follwing year and expected a repeat of the previous visit, but I really struggled. I saw far fewer fish on my second visit and they were really spooky. I did eventually find two good rainbows towards the bottom of the beat.  They looked catchable as they were intercepting nymphs regularly, but they ignored everything I threw at them!   Anyway, I blanked that day!

Nice bit of water and well worth a visit though.

Thanks for your feedback Rupert. It seems a popular venue, as booking was fairly tight, because most days were already fully booked.
Anyway, i'll give it at least one go and see how it goes.
