Fished Lockwood Beck for the first time today, fishing from the dam wall into the strong wind. Managed to get my 4 fish limit which was nice, just rainbows with the biggest being 3lb 4oz. Popped up worm on a 12-14" trace seemed to work best. Mate of mine managed a rainbow and a brownie but I think my worm bait weighed more tiny little thing but nice markings. At £10 with a 4 fish limit I think that's pretty good, not my usual sort of fishing but it was enjoyable. Recommended

I managed to get my 4 fish limit within the first 2.5hrs, there was a guy fishing with his son that hadn't had a bite all morning so I give him two of my rainbows so I could keep fishing. Sods law though I didn't catch anything else after that! Lost two others but that was it. Hopefully karma will reward me for my kindness with a 10lb Cod next time I go sea fishing doubt it though

I used to fish on a season ticket many years ago when it was run by Northumbrian Water. The fishing then was very much a reflection of the era with most people using traditional wet flies like Invicta and Mallard And Claret and 70's lures like Jersey Herd, Baby Doll, Sweeney Todd and Appetiser (always fancied running one of these past the nose of a bass. In recent years when I've been there flies like B&P spider, Gold Ribbed Hares Ear and Cats Whisker have done well for me. We used to see some clonking brownies patrolling the old beck beds on the evening and into darkness (long after the bailliff at the time, Peter Woodcock would have liked us off). Saw one caught of about 10lb the day after the brown trout season ended and this was when they were only stocked at about a pound.

Would love to catch a 10lb Brownie, specially on the fly Wouldn't mind a go at fly fishing for Bass from a kayak this year as well (need to get the kayak first!).

It had a tail like a shovel mate- what a fish. Not the prettiest but an absolute powerhouse.
Now I'm not very good in water but after watching the kayak fly fishers hitting the bass in Wales last year I find myself being drawn towards it.

Aye, a brownie like that would give you a good run around Fly fishing for Bass from a kayak does sound like good fun, actually any fishing from a kayak will be good fun I bet fly fishing for Mackerel would be interesting as well.

Think I might go down when the wind has dropped for a spot of fly fishing, see if I can remember how it is done!

a brownie but I think my worm bait weighed more tiny little thing but nice markings. Good to know that the smaller, wild browns are managing to spawn and not being all mopped up by hungry rainbows.

Aye, it was only about 7" long but in mint condition. Always a good sign.
