THE trout fishing season at LOCKWOOD BECK RESERVIOR got off to the expected flying start this week, with fish to 11lb on opening day, that one falling to a Cat’s Whisker offered by Colin Green.

The opening day rod average was 7.3.

And the good sport continued throughout the week, though the windy weather made casting difficult and kept rod numbers lower than normal for the first week of the campaign.

Colin Lynas caught 12 from a boat one day, and followed up with 10 in four hours the next day from the dam wall.

Other anglers to catch 10 or more in a session included Alan Byfield and Gary Varley, while Alan Jenkins caught a rainbow of 9lb 2oz.

Most of the fish have been taken on lures, though as the wind drops and temperatures creep up, fish will take lures, nymphs and sometimes dries, especially in the more sheltered areas.
