Off the top of my head Glenn I can think of the following:

Pike
Carp (yep, there are some in there)
Bream (and lots of them)
Dace
Roach
Perch
Chub
Barbel
Trout
Minnow
Eels

When I use to coarse fish around the Yarm are we used to catch loads of 'Teesside Trout'

Awkward little buggers to get off your hook.

Lol

I ask the question how many fishermen are their  fishing for salmon, sea-trout ,brown trout, and ells ,in the Tees.I used to get the bus to yarm and catch the ells and my first chub at yarm where the yellow water came in then when the tide came in the line used to get covered in slime from the skin yard .i was at school then ,and i would get on the  train to Saltburn and buy Herrings for bait .OR fish Glazedale for the  salmon parr which seemed plentifull then. The TEES at Stockton then looked filthy expecially at Low tide when you watched the rats on the banks. Now we never seem to have time .<lochbois>

couldnt agree more dave, certainly in the same league as the trent used to be in the 80,s and early 90,s. still used to enjoy the tidal river mind for thoughs winter roach and shoals ov silver arrows, minus 4 degree,s,,,,3.30am on a winters morn freezin our bitts off,it was a fight for a peg them days and many a wellie lost in the gunge at yarm,it was around 1991 when i seen the first carp pulled out,a 13lb mirror from preston park in 1 of our preston park angling club matches.

That brings memories back sparky. I used to fish for the Dace behind the skin yard, as well as the never ending tide of eels, when the tide was on the flood. I loved fishing there during the winter, and also the pool below the weir at leven. You could wade out to a sand bar, almost in the middle of the pool, trotting maggots down for the Dace. Aye, the good old days eh!
