Fly Rod Modification

Evening folks.
I want to modify one of my fly rods, as the handle is too thick. Therefore, i was wondering if anyone knows of anyone offering this type of service?  Quite simply, i just want to change the handle type and also to a handle which is thinner in diameter.

 Is your handle made of cork. I have a friend who has just got a Ron Thompson double handed salmon rod . THE cork on the rod was thick and unfinished . HE has coppied of my daiwa rod using sandpaper to shape it and the rod looks 100 times better. hope this helps <lochbois>

I would first have a word with the manufacturer of your rod first before you start cutting and trimming, they may have a replacement handle or advise on how to go about the alterations

Thanks for your advice Lochbois, but to be honest, i wouldnt dare try modifying it myself.  I'm a coward when it comes to DIY, just ask our lass.

I'll try e mailing "Loop" Kate and see what they can do.

dave m8, - have small hands i (for a bloke, and yes i can hear the laughter) but all joking aside this causes many discomfort problems for me personally with the diametre of fishing rod butts -particularly those of trout fly rods,

however the cork handle fitted to most fly rods is usually at what can be considered maximum size/diametre so therefore offers plenty of latitude for reduction and is in fact very easy to 'whittle'/sand down to suitable diametre to suit it's users desired diametre / profile -i have two brook rods that are reduced to just 1" daimetre (at the narrowest points) whilst retaining a full 'scroll' profile

....IF... its of interest to you i could do the work for you , 
 (also i would be more than happy to send pictures of my two rods that i have modified already so that you can see just what can be acheived)

Thanks very much NBO mate, i'll take you up on your offer of doing the work. The rod is has an unusual reversed half wells handle for its aftma rating which is 7-8. I dont mind the reversed half wells but it is thicker than standard handles on all my other rods and uncomfortable to fish with.
