Eel Tarn, Eskdale, Cumbria

I was over there on the 15th March and their trout season started that day so I forsaked the blinding selection of ales available at the pub and decided to blow away the cobwebs. I didn't have a lot of kit with me and it was still pretty cold up there but it was nice to give a little brown trout Rapala a swim.

The start of the walk:

Superb views on the way up:

You could still see the pub at this point but the cloud was holding off so onwards!

Starting to get higher:

It has to be just over there.....

Still in high spirits though:

As is this loon!

And its because we're there!!!

Only had one 'bump' to a little red & silver spinner but it got us out for an hour or so before the weather closed in.
While its not the most highly rated of tarns with Devoke and suchlike being local favourites, I imagine it would be quite a nice place to explore with a 'team of three' on a warm Summer night.

Cheers mate- we were lucky weatherwise. It was a really mild afternoon, so much so that the frogs were spawning in the margins- Poor sods will have been caught out the following week though!
As I said earlier, Eel Tarn is often overlooked as it is very weedy but I've no doubt that means there are probably some cracking trout and perch to be had there.

I wouldn't mind giving the ultra-light lures ago on there for sure, would be good fun picking up some nice Trout/Perch on the light gear  I've just got some new ultralite lures that I'm keen to try out anyway.

I hope to be in the Lakes in May so I might have a look at that Tarn with some light gear.
