Northumbrain Water Derwent Catch Returns

Ranger's review:  Derwent got off to a fantastic start to the season with angers catching an abundance of fish on both bait and fly. This is not surprising as 6,000 fish were stocked pre season including the biggest ever stocking of double figure fish, with 30 rainbows between 10lb and 15lb. We saw three of these caught over the weekend with Geordie Samson from Wallsend taking the fish of the week at 14lb 12oz. This was caught from the Pow Hill hotspot near the Oak Tree on Powerbait. Fly anglers found Cronkley the best area with intermediate lines and lures such as the Black Fritz and the Cat's Whisker doing well.

Best flies:             Dawson's Olive, Black Fritz, Cat's Whisker.
Best baits:          Powerbait worm cocktail.
Best areas:         Pow Hill (Oak Tree) on bait.
