SCALBY BECK - Day tickets & access to fly fishing at Scarborough
« on: February 18, 2008, 10:54:26 PM »
re: scalby beck angling club's water at scarborough ,
this is wonderful fishing -right here on our doorsteps where i have been fortunate enough to spend many happy hours as i have been a member for some years (i am also a committee member of s.b.a.c.)  many anglers do not realise that access is available to fish our clubs waters.

-this comprises of two and a half miles of river which is mainly fly fishing for brown trout, with some grayling and chub, but also given suitable water conditions a very significant run of sea-trout can also be present.

during the trout season (close season applies for brown trout) day and evening tickets for fly fishing on the club's waters are available to non-members from the club secretary,

-for futher details or to arrange fishing please visit the club's website      http://www.sbac.talktalk.net/

results from first three sessions on the club water this year: -

things a bit slow first two sessions owing to high/cold water which was quite couloured (heavy peat stain) -had it been june onwards conditions were ideal for seatrout......  -but alas it is too early yet... oh well!

anyway those two trips resulted in about five fish (all returned) -all taken on heavily weghted nymphs fished slow and deep in the slower pools as the more streamy runs were un-fishable owing to water velocity

the most recent trip (last sunday, 13th april) was much better as the water while still having a good raised high (10") level was significantly less couloured (a lovely opaque greenish) with greatly improved clarity and apparently warmer water  this certainly saw the resident trout in a much more positive frame of mind with the takes coming with a level of ferocity not seen before during this new season.

this resulted in twelve fish landed with three lost in play and a great many more takes missed completely .

altogether a great afternoon by the river -the sun was shining and it was even warm as well!

the surroundings were superb as most of the trees are just breaking new leaf with many just coming in to blossom too and of course the heavy scent of the garlic interspersed with so many wild flowers .....

all in all a great day out

Superb stuff mate, I'm going to have to get up there soon.
And I love the smell of wild garlic, just after a rain shower.
