Cow Green Outing
« on: March 11, 2008, 08:26:36 PM »
Alright lads. Is it possible to arrange a date for our outing to Cow Green in advance? As my work off duty goes in a month ahead, it means that i have to request certain days off work in advance.
Cheers

Dave

A weekend will most probably suit everyone rather than a week day.

Weekends are best for me as well but I'd leave it until mid-May or around there as the weather up there can change in minutes.
I've hooked fish while in just a t-shirt and its been a blizzard by the time I've landed it.
The fish don't mind the snow though- they still come up to the top for a bushy Zulu.
Interestingly that day they were keener on a fly fished at breakneck speed- faster than you've even seen the lure pullers fish.

Wild Brown Trout mate. Not very big but gorgeous fish nevertheless.

What i meant Ian,  is that i'd prefere to arrange a date from now, such as the  24th or 25th May, so i can request that day off now. If the weather is crap we can cancel it no probs. I get 4 days off a week but they have to go in in advance and i have to work at least 2 weekends per month, hence requesting days in advance.

I've no problems whichever weekend you guys work out between you, though I'm DJ'ing on Sat 24th May so could be a touch 'groggy' the next day- mind you, theres no better place to blow away the cobwebs!

Well gents, if we can just shake off these northerlies then I think we're on. A nice westerly wind with a nice ripple on an overcast day would be just perfect!

Thats true Ian, but it seems we have then for another week at least. Mind you, they usually get long range forecasts wrong anyway.

I really wouldn't want to risk going up there in a northerly though- the fish will still respond, albeit with less enthusiasm but even now you could get caught in a snowstorm- as we did about this time last year!

I imagine the water levels should be right up though which is good as there are some really nasty patches of sinking sand/mud around the burn mouths when its low.

I'm looking forward to it, and one reason is that i've never fished where the Tees runs in.
