WEST HOUSE regular and England squad member Chris Micalef from Stockton won the Troutmasters fish-off - when he finally woke up.

He forgot to change his clock to British summertime, so arrived an hour late, but still caught 14 fish, mainly on size 16 Black Buzzers, to win.

It earned him his eighth consecutive final appearances, and he will fish at Grafham Water in May for national honours in the event run by Trout Fisherman magazine.

Richard Landsbury, the winner of the West House Winter Series was runner up with eight fish. Ernie Craster and James Stephenson caught six each to tie for third place.

Among non-match anglers to shine was John Parkinson of Thirsk, who caught a 14lb 6oz rainbow on a Bloodworm. Peter Johnson of Stockton, on his first visit to the lakes, caught 12 fish all on small dry flies.

Top patterns: Bloodworm, Damsel, Cat’s Whisker, Dawson’s, Olive Zonker, Black or Olive Buzzers.
