Now that wouldnt surprise me Matty. Ive also heard of some anglers wanting Zander to be introduced to the river, and to be honest, i think the lower stretches are ideal for them.

Yep, and ideal to fish for them from the yaks, as well Matty.

I would loooooooovvvvvvvveeee it if we had Zander in the Tees, as you say Dave the lower Tees would be ideal for them. Only problem is no doubt some of the numpties would be knocking them on the head in fear that they would spoil their fishing for 3" Roach

Catfish would be quite good but then the river banks would be covered in bivvies with lines all over the place, not a good thing if you want to go lure fishing for Zander

Ha Ha Sam, was that an impersonation of kevin Keegan?

Yep, your'e right there mate, there would be loonies knocking them on the head, just like they do to the Pike.

Aye Sam the same could happen if the Carp population grew in the river, to a proportion where they could be naturally targetted. There would be tents all over the shop.

I was going to do some Pike fishing last week, but the river was up a tad, so i didnt bother. Hopefully though, i might just make a session soon. I know one thing, i need to get out doing some serious Seatrout fishing.

Aye, I'm looking forward to getting on the Tees for some Piking, specially from the yak
Problem is there are to many different types of fishing I need to be doing, loving my sea fishing at the moment but do need to get out Piking and I fancy a crack at the Barbel on the Ure

Its a difficult one for me as zander have always appealed to me. Maybe its their nocturnal nature and me thinking I could probably apply my sea trout tactics for them, only with a bigger fly to create water displacement.
However, it could have a negative effect on the smolt migration, which looking at the Barrage at present looks to be far from an easy task from them.

I know what you mean Sam. I suppose one way, we are lucky, rather than just doing one kind of fishing. Maybe, its better to concentrate on one type of fishing though, to get the best out of it, but the temptation is too great for me to try different types.
Maybe, in the future, a trip to The Broads with the yaks to fish for Zander might be a good idea. Oh, and the Pike.

Thats true Ian, but the thing is, the EA seem to be hell bent on concentrating on Coarse Fishing, with regards to the Tees. I can't however, see them ever stocking Zander into the river. Mind you, the EA work in strange ways, so you never know.

Do they make any sort of provision for smolt migration Dave?

Or is it just a heron's banquet?

Ian, they have been making improvements to the Salmon Redds on the Balder and other tributries. This programme has been going on for about 18 months now. With regards to smolt migration, i'm not sure. I for one are concerned about this, as its concievable they would fall prey to Pike and Perch when they reach the Barrage, whilst waiting to find a way past it. I think a lot of them end up in the Slalom course, and yep, it does turn into an herons banquet. There were two herons there yesterday, fighting for position.

I could e mail them and ask, but when i've done this in the past concerning Tees Salmon and the Barrage problem, i got the dodgiest of replies.

Sidestepping issues must be one of their stronger areas Dave.

I suppose all we can do is wait.

And not hold our breath too much.

Have you had a look down this week?

I'd rather be on the go, or doing something all the time Matty. Even when i try for them Barbel on the Ure, i'd most probably keep on the move.

My mate has took up carp fishing after 10 years of game fishing. We went once to an old place where the carp had been in there for about 50 years, and to be honest it bored me to pieces. After about 2 hours the tininies came out, and we ended up blathered. Subsequently, he took up commercial carp fishing, because he said he liked the social life of it. Now he goes away for days on end, fishing and boozing.

I've just been down their today Ian, and theres plenty of water coming oover the top. I didnt see any fish or seals, but they will be there. I then went to the S. Gare for a look round. There was one Macky hooked all morning apparently, and a seal got that one.

Got to agree with you... Love Fly fishing and dont do anything else now, Really only got into carping to encourage my two sons to get into fishing. Sadly they are lost cause wasting their time on guitars and girls,,,,Must agree that its a bit static but the fishing on the french rivers is different the quality of the rivers over there is astonishing...
