Sorry we dont have a prize, but does anyone fancy running a monthly photo comp in the is section similar to the one run in the sea fishing section ? It would give you all the opportunity to show of some snaps of your favourite places. Plus it would make the site more interesting. I think people like to see pictures of where we fish, it makes the site more appealing.

No reason why not Glenn, especially with Spring just around the corner.
As for a prize- let me make a few enquiries this afternoon.

Excellent idea Glenn, I'd offer Baxter Angling to provide the prize but as we only sell lures at the moment it's a bit limiting, for example somebody that goes fly fishing wouldn't really appreciate a 7" Jerkbait  cry  wink

Plus I wouldn't be able to enter the photo comp  cry cry cry cry

I would go to amazon and view their deals on cameras. I couldn't find any place cheaper than them. Also I don't think you need to spend anywhere near £200 to get a decent camera. Mine cost £100, 7.1mp

The Panasonic Glenn bought is a good camera for the money as is the Fuji range in the £170 - £199 price bracket. However, if you need a waterproof camera then the Pentax Optio WP seem to be the best bet. You have to becareful about keeping the lens clean though as there is no built in cover.

If your generous off is still on I can offer a suggestion; I'll offer to do the judging and promise not to be influenced by the sponsor (or administrator). I'm sure even hardened fly-fishermen wouldn't turn  their noses up at a 7" jerk..........bait.  laugh

Why dont you just start 1 without a prize ? im sure people would enter it anyway. What would you need ??

2 people to pick best 10 pics between them each month. Then set up a poll based on voting for your favourite pic from the best 10.

I would prefer it if someone else took this on though as administering the forum etc is proving time consuming at the moment for me.

Instead of having a monthly photo competion, why not have the competion to close 31st October when the salmon/sea trout season ends, then get someone from the Whitby Gazette (there top photographer to be the judge of the pics) and maybe get some prizes donated by angling shops who would then get free press on this site and also a link to there shop.
Then if an outsider was the judge then knowbody could have any bias towards anyone else, and everyone could then enter.
The only rule really is that the pictures have to contain water.

That's a great idea Kate, infact its so good I'm surprised I never thought of it. However it does need someone to take it on, set it up and run it.

Any offers ?
