This is a sea angling forum for the debate of all angling related topics, including: shore fishing, boat and kayak fishing. Here you will find pictures of anglers going sea fishing and catching fish. You will find angling related debate. Sometimes anglers will retain fish for the table. Whilst we respect the personnal choice of anglers to follow catch and release practices, this is not a conservation forum and devout conservationists unable to accept anglers sensibly retaining fish should seek out alternative forums. Anyone preaching catch and release or criticising other peoples reports will have their posts removed.

Hello all,
Just booked a trip on Shy-Torque for the 24th,can anyone tell me if fishing with jiggers and shads work just as well at this time of year or should i concentrate with bait fishing,as most of my fishing has been done in the summer months. Thanks

I've only managed 5 trips in the dory all year because of the weather conditions. It's just been one low pressure system pushing out another low pressure system.  A casual glance on sky news each day shows no end to anti clockwise fronts approaching.  It could all change though.  Good luck with your trip.

I was out on Sea-Otter2 monday and Trot- on tuesday and although conditions were grim to say the least, all fish on board were caught with squid or mackerel. We tried shads/jellyworms etc at times baited with a sliver of fresh bait but not a sniff.

No problem mate. I caught all my fish on a 3-4ft pennell rig with a muppet above the top hook. Also caught a 6-7lb pollock on the bottom with this rig as well!

In the 2 days it was nigh on all Ling. There were 3 pollock and about 5 cod/codling to about 7lb. We also managed to locate some mackerel as well on the way out. A fair amount of the Lings were small straps 3-4lb.

Thats a smart move in my opinion.
It's not a safe bet to rely on catching fresh mackeral on the day.
Mackeral can be the killer bait for crocodiles in september  :blindfold:
