This is a sea angling forum for the debate of all angling related topics, including: shore fishing, boat and kayak fishing. Here you will find pictures of anglers going sea fishing and catching fish. You will find angling related debate. Sometimes anglers will retain fish for the table. Whilst we respect the personnal choice of anglers to follow catch and release practices, this is not a conservation forum and devout conservationists unable to accept anglers sensibly retaining fish should seek out alternative forums. Anyone preaching catch and release or criticising other peoples reports will have their posts removed.

Day 2 Results

Day 2 saw some excellent catches and a new leader. Brian Milburn from Bishop Auckland came to the scales with a big ling that went passed the 20 pounds mark, an excellent fish for so early in the festival. With the smaller tides to come next week I think there will be bigger to come.

2nd Chris Walker Pontefract Ling 14-11.5 Sea Otter 2

3rd Paul Hodgeson Sheffield Ling 14-6.5 sea Spray

Day 8 Results

Today's winner was A Varley from Leeds who is a newcomer to the festival and infact states he had never picked up a fishing rod in his life before today. Fishing on heartbeat Mr Varley wound in a ling of 17 pounds 11 ounces which was enough to earn him £50 as a daily winner.

It was good news on the cod front with a new category leader. Dave Pickard landed a cod of 13 pounds 10.5 ounces from John Whitton's Never Can Tell A. There's a new leader in the specimen category too with a Pollock of  10 pounds 6 ounces taking the lead for Niel Sawdon of Bansley Who fished on 2 doggs.

1st A Varley Leeds Ling 17-11 - Heartbeat

2nd Lyndon Cambell  Huddersfield Ling 16-13 - Achates

3rd Nick Crowther Halifax Ling 16-8 - Never can tell A

Day 9 Results

Trot On skipper Paul Eddon certainly knows how to find the big ling at the moment. Mike Bess fishing on Pauls boat is already in first place overall in the festival and today another Trot On angler took second place with a ling of just half an ounce less than Mike's. Steve Read from Doncaster was the lucky angler with a ling of 20 pounds. Stev also got a third place daily prize today with another ling of 15 pounds 7 ounces.

Again there is another leader in the cod section. Local angler Tony Morrison from Whitby had 3 double figure cod today the biggest weighing just over 15 pounds. Tony fished on Trot On with his colleagues from the local Potash mine at Boulby.

1st Steve Read Doncaster Ling 20 pounds 7.5 ounces - Trot On

2nd Ian Fisher Guisborough Ling 15 11.5 - Shytorque

3rd Steve read Doncaster Ling 15-7 -Trot On

Day 11 Results

Sean Cowshaw of Sheffield was today's winner with a Ling of 20 pounds 6 ounces. A great catch but unfortunately just not big enough to get Sean into the festivals top 3 places.

1st Sean Cowwshaw Sheffield - Ling 20 pounds 6 ounces - Sea Spray

2nd John Veins Stockton Ling 17-11.5 - 2 doggs

3rd Glenn Stokes Sheffield - Ling 13-2 - Sea Otter 2

Unfortunately I did not get a snap of today's winner but I did get a couple of interesting pics of this young 6 year old who fished on Saxon Lady and caught a ling of 8 pounds and apparently managed to reel it in all on his own.

He's struggling to keep hod for the second pic.

Down it goes

A lot of the members of the Whitby Angling Club were out today too

Charlie "the Pollock" Breckon was off with Russ Porritt on Achates

Dave Perett

Our very own Ringer was off with John Whitton on Never Can Tell

And Dave Johnston was just hanging around looking like Wallace of Wallace And Gromit fame
