Come on then you bass heads how many different methods are worth trying for bass from the shore ? This isn't about marks so you experts can surely chip in a bit of info for someone like me who hasn't caught 1 all year. Spinners ? Plugs, floats ? different baits ? free lining baits etc ?

Live sandeels/shrimps under a bubble float on a small circle hook.

Slow retrieved Redgill on a really long flouro trace behind a bubble float.

I usually use 10lb for the small 70mm and 15lb for the 115mm ones. I prefer them in black or the afterburners which are black which a coloured tail.

I use them with the Bulrag bubblefloats, these cast like a bullet

Thats a technique ive been fancying doing that phill, seen them bulrag floats in veals me self and was gona invest in a couple ,,,,never seen anyone using them around here yet though,,,, i find if the fish are known to be around a specific area i would use ragworm on the bottom , even crab like paul said , although ive had most of my bottom caught bass on ragworm with a glow floating bead near the hook, and funny as it may seem all my bass were caught on a flat clean sea,,,, none of this surf rolling in gear ,which i always seem to hear are  the best conditions for bass  ,maybe on the west coast were the waters always clear , even with a surf on ,, but the most exciting way i find is to hunt them with plugs ,,,but try and find out if bass are near by , mainly through catch reports ....asking people , research ,and   spying , by any means just try to find them ,then with persivierence time will pay off ....ignore my spelling  ;D....and once youve scored glen well let you in the club  lol

rapala's for me too chris, but i love fishing the surf with me beachcaster with a long puuley. the bites can be outstanding, and it gives you that winter cod biite buzz, but at the end of the line you have this bar of silver that looks ten times better than a cod, but will never beat a cod if you know what i mean ???
bass look fantastic, but a prime shore caught, winter seven pound cod takes some beating for a prize ;D

you can fish shore or boat all over the world, but a plump cod in winter is the biz ;D

sorry lads while i was writing, i was salavating on my left leg, i love it ;D :D ;D :D ;D

While in Wales a jointed mid-depth plug was the one that provoked the most interest but at Upgang its the humble ragworm on a pulley rig with a 4ft flowing trace thats done the job.

i enjoy all methods to catch bass though wading with a bass rod in clear water when the surf is just starting and a live bait on the end takes a bit of beating, the bites are so ferocious and really startel you, more than with a popper even using braid.

where you on your yak or shore ray?i dont think any way is wrong ray, some people swear by giving it a good few tugs and pausing for 3,5,10 seconds and repeat, i usually always wind but add a few good pulls whilst winding. aslong as the popper is spitting water and making a popping noise the fish will locate it. if its flat then i might start my session with a popper and if i dont get a take after 10-15 minutes i will try a diver/spinner and only put a popper back on if i can see fish on the top. many times ive had fish on the first cast on the popper such is the draw they have to bass but quite often they dont want to take them off the top or out of range of poppers. mike ladles site is the site for info on anything bass

Cheers baza. I was on my yak mate. Thought i,d give the popper a go. I never saw any activity with fish chasing baitfish but as I was drifting over the kelp there was sandeel and other fish everywhere. Iain had a go later when there was fish been chased around the surface but they turned out to be coalies.

Are you ledgering the live bait or freelining ?

ive had them both ways glen freelining and and ledgering, the trich is not too cast them hard though, a goodsized butterfish will go straight down without weight though if youre putting it over snags it will snag you, i like to cast onto sand with an ounce of lead near to rocks, the lead will stop it swimming under a stone by keeping him in the open
