This is a sea angling forum for the debate of all angling related topics, including: shore fishing, boat and kayak fishing. Here you will find pictures of anglers going sea fishing and catching fish. You will find angling related debate. Sometimes anglers will retain fish for the table. Whilst we respect the personnal choice of anglers to follow catch and release practices, this is not a conservation forum and devout conservationists unable to accept anglers sensibly retaining fish should seek out alternative forums. Anyone preaching catch and release or criticising other peoples reports will have their posts removed.

tope session
« on: July 28, 2007, 06:35:02 PM »
me and a couple of mates of wsf went on a meet at the mull of galloway, we travelled up on wednesday and arrived at 2pm. straight down the bottom of the wall and had a session on macky, caught wrasse too up to 2.5lb for greig. an early start thursday morning and launched from our campsite at east tarbet. a very slow day, we could only fish luce bay because of the swells on the western side but it produced a 5.5lb pollock for my mate dave

he got 3 around this side to win the heaviest pollock over the 2 days out of 16 lads ;D
i lost an unstoppable one that ripped braid of my reel at a rate of knotts and locked me up >:(
the next day we left drummore to a much better day though still not good enough for the west side. we headed of to the tope grounds and after a few hours live baiting mackarel i had the first and only run of the day for our boat which resulted in this big girl weighing a guestimated 40lb

thats theskipper, a horden lad who lives and works up there now called malcolm. top man. heres the cheesiest pic of a jubilent me :-[

she won me a nice new boat rod and a cup, which hasnt arrived yet, all in all a top couple of days. im back in a fortnight with dave and our al(his pic with the pollock in the gallery) to have a crack at the tope and pollock on the west side fingers crossed.

jv was hammering the pollock, on the first day with 4 boats on an area the same size as half a football pitch he was using a different method to everyone else, choosing to use a leadhead whilst all around where float fishing his method paid off.
it shows how good slosh 30s are to bring fish of that size in, quite easily too, from the shore it might be different though. the skipper gave us a top method to try involving a coke bottle and a flapper. i have the location all i need now is the time and a bit of luck.
ray do you recognise the skipper? he was a torny caster had a pb of 230yrds and is a yakker, pit that is, he doesnt do the size of the fish justice cos hes a very big bloke, i would have liked a picture of me holding her but after watching malcolm wrestle it on the deck it would have been dangerous for me to try and hold her with my knocking knees, on a bigger boat maybe but space is very tight on these vessels

Nice one Baza, top fish.

If the weathers good im back up there next weekend, but only going up if the irish sea side is fishable.

Last time we we're up at Cainryan pier we were contemplating a bash for the tope off the shore, have a nice lil mark in mind on luce bay. We heard from the shore the best times are spring and start of autumn. With spring being the small pack fish and autumn being the best bet of a bigger fish turning up. If you ever decide to have a bash up there off the shore for them let us know mate.

Nice fish Baza, went up that way for a crack at the smoothies on Sunday, tryed a couple of marks on the Solway area, but the water was like gin,so my mate tells me,that was the kiss of death. The bassing was a different story though ;). 2 Oof my buddies were in the same area the weekend before, one had 17 hounds up to 9lb,9 of them on a spinning rod ;D, the lad that went with him had a small conger and a tope pup around the 4 1/2 pound mark, shows they are a possibility from the shore.
